Most homeowners never see what’s hiding behind their dryer until it gets pulled away from the wall.

These before/after pictures were taken during a recent dryer vent cleaning service.

Over time, lint, dust, dirt, moisture, and everyday grime can build up behind and underneath the dryer — especially in high-use laundry rooms.

Along with cleaning the vent itself, I also clean buildup from behind and around the dryer as part of the service.

A lot of homeowners are surprised by:
• How much lint and dust collect on the walls
• How dirty the floor area becomes over time
• How much cleaner and fresher the laundry area feels afterward

Most people clean the lint trap after every load… but never see what builds up inside the dryer itself over time.

These pictures were taken during a recent dryer vent cleaning service.

One thing that makes my service a little different is that I also clean buildup from inside and around the dryer — not just the vent line to the exterior.

Over time, lint and hair can accumulate inside the dryer cabinet and around components, especially in homes with pets or frequent laundry use.

That buildup can:
• Restrict airflow
• Increase drying time
• Cause excess heat buildup
• Put additional strain on the appliance

A lot of homeowners are surprised by how much buildup can accumulate in areas they never see.

If you’ve been seeing these around your roof or yard lately—you’re not alone.

These oak tree “tassels” (catkins) are falling heavily right now and are one of the most common causes of clogged gutters in the spring.

-collect in roof valleys

When was the last time you flushed your water heater?

It’s one of those things no one thinks about — until it stops working.

In Mount Airy, Maryland and the surrounding areas, we tend to have harder water and a lot of homes on well systems. That leads to sediment building up in the tank over time, which can:
• Reduce efficiency
• Shorten the life of the water heater
• Lead to bigger issues down the road

Most manufacturers recommend periodic flushing to help extend the life of the tank and keep it running efficiently.

If you have a home warranty, it’s also worth knowing that lack of maintenance can affect coverage depending on the policy.

🌧️ With this stretch of cooler, rainy weather in Maryland, it’s a good time to take a quick look at how your gutters are handling water.

A lot of the early spring buildup (small debris, leftover fall material, shingle grit) isn’t always obvious until water starts backing up.

💧 Signs to watch for during rain:
• Water spilling over the sides
• Dripping or pooling near the foundation
• Downspouts not flowing well
• Gutters holding standing water

Most of the time, it’s just buildup that needs to be cleared before it turns into a bigger issue.

I did a “simple” dryer vent cleaning last week, and it turned into a full-on moment.

When I pulled the dryer out I found:
🚮 Trash and debris underneath
💨 Buildup of lint inside the dryer itself
🔥 And of course, a clogged vent line

It’s one of those things — we clean what we can see, but this spot gets missed in almost every home.

That’s why when I do a dryer vent service, it’s not just the vent.

It’s:
✅ Inside the dryer (where lint builds up)
✅ Behind and underneath it
✅ The full vent line to the outside

Basically the stuff nobody wants to deal with, but makes a big difference once it’s done.
