Project of the Day 06-06-26

I added the final construction details for the Arbor, and added more lattice on the bottom section below the deck which took much of the day, so I’m going to finish up the staining next week.

Linda, who lives in Thompson Station is one of my very first clients from when I first moved here to Tennessee. She calls me periodically to hang decorative items in her house. This was my Nephew Everett’s last day here, so I put him to work behind the camera.

My Nephew Everett and I continued on the deck Arbor today and put up the main supports that the rafters will sit on. I’ll be back Saturday again to hopefully wrap it up, and get stain on the lattice and posts. Everett is a pretty good camera man too!

We were back at our client Nicole’s today to continue on the deck arbor project. We pre-stained the lumber that will be placed on top next. Pre-staining allowed us to do the staining down in the shade instead of on ladders in the sun later after construction. ”

Installed a couple grab bars for a regular client in Hermitage today. An easy fix for a safer showering and bathing experience.

Projects of the Week 05-30-26

While I was refinishing the deck for my new client Nicole, and her Mother Judy the week before we planned on constructing an Arbor to provide shade in the area where they do most of their lounging around the pool. It was scheduled to be completed by the end of this past week, but rain put a damper on that plan, and I plan to finish this upcoming week, weather permitting. The plan is to install 4 large 2" x 10" beams running across the top at the front and back, and then securing 2" x 4" material for the rafters on the top of those. Then the entire Arbor will be stained using the same "Super Deck" solid color stain by Sherwin Williams that I used on the deck. We stained the edges of the lattice and the stop molding material that the lattice will be secured to. Those areas would be hard to stain after the lattice installation.

Since it was raining on and off all last week I was able to tackle a few other indoor tasks. I patched and finished a hole in the ceiling above a shower for my client Cecelia's other rental property in Nashville. I did some extensive drywall repair and painting at her other rental property at The Midtown Loft as few weeks back.

I also started a small paint project at the Colony House in Franklin, TN. The rain kept me from finishing that little project as well. The entry door has to remain open while I paint for ventilation, but I couldn't because the rain wouldn't be good for the door hardware, so that has also been re-scheduled for the following week as well.

Projects of the Week 05-23-26

Rain came through the Nashville area this past week, but I managed to get stain on the parking lot side of some new fence boards at The Colony House in Franklin that I had had installed earlier. I had already stained the street side the previous week as well.

Since it had been raining on and off all week, I engaged in some indoor tasks. A client of ours at the Midtown Loft in Nashville asked me to replace two of her bathroom faucets, and drain assemblies. I also replaced a bathroom faucet for my friend and regular client Lisa. Her old faucet just didn't hang over into her sink far enough, so I replaced it with one that does. I also installed a new hook for Lisa's bird feeder on her front porch.

My friend Lisa's neighbor, who is also her lawn care guy asked me to assemble a new TV hutch for him. This hutch has a built in power strip with LED lighting with adjustable light settings, including different colors.

Projects of the Week 05-16-26

I started a deck facelift/re-staining project in Spring Hill, TN the previous week for my awesome new clients, Nicole, and her Mother Judy. I replaced a few rotting deck boards. Then this past week I filled many holes, and cracks, and used a standing sander that we rented at Home Depot to sand the entire deck. Next I applied a nice thick coat of Sherwin Williams "Super Deck" solid color stain that I color matched to a piece of old deck board that I removed. Next I will be constructing an Arbor onto the deck to provide partial shade over the section of the deck where they hang out the most.

Later in the week I went back to the Verdei Group managed condominium property named "The Colony House" in Franklin, TN where there are ongoing projects. One of these ongoing projects is replacing rotting fence boards, and then staining them. Many other areas of the fence that goes all around the property needs some minor repair work as well. The drywall I repaired the last time I was there needed a coat of PVA primer, and I took care of that. I also replaced two rotting railing caps a couple weeks ago, and then applied a coat "Super Deck" solid color stain that I color matched to a piece of the old rail cap.

Projects of the Week 05-09-26

Its that time of year! People are repairing and sprucing up their decks in time for summer gatherings, and gardening is in full swing!

This past week started out with a small prime and paint project for regular client in Franklin, TN. Over time water had started penetrating and damaging the trim above her garage door. Most like from around her address number plate, which I used caulking to create a seal around. I continued to prime and then paint the entire trimmed area.

I returned to Lisa's place in Old Hickory and continued with the planter box base project. I completed the assembly of the bases, and then attached the planter boxes using cleat material. Then I used more fence board material to create a trim around each unit as well. Later Lisa used "Seal it Green" to coat the entire planter box interior including the plywood bottom to help protect the wood for years to come.

The end of the week included multiple deck repair projects. The first was at a rental managed by The Verdei Group in Clarksville, TN where I replaced a few rotten boards. I took a piece of the old deck to Sherwin Williams where they were able to match it with a new gallon of solid color "Super Deck" stain. I plan to do the same thing for a new client in Spring Hill, TN where I also replaced a few boards, and also all the top railing cap around the deck. In this case I will be renting a standup sander this upcoming week and sanding the entire deck before staining.
