So the cave/guest room and guest bathroom is coming along nicely. Got the I love me wall, paint going on walls, interior doors next, then 2 dormer windows to be built. The stairway leading up to the area will have a unique railing.......climbing wall grips.

Sooo what do we do when we are rained out? Well, well, well since my much better half, ,has an attitude of a giant, but the stature of something much smaller (think robust midget) I took the time to get some of the 'to dos' checked off. Before and after of the laundry room additions, midget friendly height, of course. Then I repurposed a butcher block desk in our room to my main dude's, bedroom. Then setup that former space into something that now has an antique makeup dresser and mirror (for said much better half). Lastly I cleaned up the bottom of the creek-find church pew and set some cushions to protect the hardwood floor. Now Ibgetvto relax before getting back at it tomorrow.

So I got ky happy ass back down to the convebtion center (local dealer picked me up) with every intent of taking the train home from downtown. Jokes on me the booth, which is a distributor for , won an award for the entire booth at the 2024 FenceTech Convention. I got alot of compliments that the deck display I built was the best at the show. My reward you ask? A VERY cool Japanese Cedar bench. 200lbs of love that I had to get from the convention center to train station to home and its resting spot. Thank goodness for the stoned bicycle taxi guy, he was great. He pedalled slowly so it wouldnt get chipped or nicked. I was not looking forward to hu***ng this chunk of beautiful through downtown Nashville.

So, it's been a hot minute since I posted last. I was asked to build a trade show display, which will get moved into a dealer showroom afterwards, for . Of course I would. A straightforward 8'x8' with a picture frame and 2 sides of railing. Usually I build these in sections in the shop, but had to build this one site, not a problem. I brought a shop vac for the dust. It tuned out great.

I had the opportunity to use the Moistureshield joist tape. Hands down the best I have used. First, it's wider, so it wraps over the edges of a joist, and it rips smoothly for faster application.

Make the right decision and buy the joist tape. For those of you familiar with this feature on a build, you will switch, IMMEDIATELY.

Nothing to see here, just doing some stamped concrete, on a Friday, until 930pm. We had to work late as inclement weather is due for the remainder of the weekend including possible snow. Yes there is stamp edge cleanup that was done but not pictured. We will post more after forms removed and edge cleanup on Monday.

Just an build. Down with old, in with the new. The morning view is just unreal. Deer nibbling on grass over morning coffee. This is why I do this, so people can enjoy being Outdoor. Merry Christmas from all of us here at Outdoor Life & Designs.

DOY, 2nd entry. Worked the switchback stairsets today. Pretty excited to see final colors coming together. I am genuinely impressed with the deck boards. Easy to work with, grippy with morning dew on them......not sure how I can see the heat reduction given the time of the year. Let me noodle on it.

So get questions from folks, other builders and yes the occasional dip s**t. Got one from the latter yesterday. "What do you wear on the jobsite?", seemed benign. I prefer hiking boots as they are comfortable, great traction and ankle support-my favorite is a pair of . I also have a pair of . For long legged britches hands down-comfortable, durable and water resistant/wicking. shirts and long sleeve shirts and Hoosier. hooks us up with embroidery to look professional.

Clown boy replies with those boots aren't steel toed, tied, OSHA won't approve!

OSHA? Never heard of her and no the SOP for deck screws does NOT include running one through your foot......and it's your own damn fault if you step on something, Jeep your jobsite tight.

SMH, du***ss.

Yojiggity is back in action. When building a deck there must be that one corner that starts the flow of your boards, wood or composite. Once you make that determination the pattern, blocking and color coordination thought process begins......not until that point.

You client doesn't see the framing, doesn't see the time put in to make sure that the support is therre for what they see, but what they see matters and it begins with your plan.

By using my jig for top down screw placement I began with the covered, existing portion of the project, made sure my top step tread lined up with my pattern. Then I set my outer margin with the picture frame board with color matched screws, properly spaced. The time put it here will make us look amazing when we install the 50 feet of decking.

We all know this a stunt double......steel is real. I have spoken.

If you haven't selected you are just wrong. My guys have been singing the praises of their product. Even I said it's just another composite board. I was wrong.

Anybody who has built outdoor spaces had slipped on dew-wet composite boards. Not these bad boys. I tripped because it was tacky underfoor.

Pick a color and enjoy. Tell 'em the O.L.D. Guy sent ya!
