Good evening folks. Been a LONG TIME since I've come around and had much to report or talk about. But I wanted to send out a quick PSA for everybody real quick.
This picture is of some Ash I sawed last Friday and waiting on the customer to pick up. This is why I always tell you to have stickers ready for cut lumber. In less than a week in an unheated shop even with the cold snap we just had this lumber started molding and sticking together. I don't typically take the time to sticker lumber as I'm sawing, unless it's really hot or it's going in the kiln but I decided to check this stack out and probably kept from ruining his lumber

Good evening folks of Facebook land. Just figured I'd better let some of you folks know I'm still alive and kicking. It's been a couple years since I've actually posted anything about this business. But even with the 2 year hiatus, today marks 12 years in the sawmill life. Granted this last couple years have not been what I wanted as far as growing and building, I'm not done yet. I've got several customers that have been more than patient and hopefully new customers still looking. That being said, thank all of you and fingers crossed, '23 is gonna get back on track and get back to business

Good evening folks just going through some pictures last night and realized what today is. Today is a pretty big notch on the log around here...10 notches to be exact. Today is the 10 year anniversary of Flatbranch Sawmill. Granted this last year hasn't been the greatest by far just with everything that's been happening but it's still been a good year. At this time last year I told you that it was gonna be a big year with alot of new things coming out. Well I missed the mark for the biggest part of the year up until right around Christmas time and then it got crazy with that gorgeous walnut table and I also got some really cool round tables put together but I'm waiting on some pictures of those.
But the big picture and the moral of the story is the fact that I've...with a little help and a ton of support, I've made this passion last for 10 years now. So for everybody who's helped, whether by stopping in or dropping logs off...thank you!

Good evening folks. It's been a long long time since I've brought any updates on the sawmill life. I don't need to say anything about how fabulous this past year has been for everybody. But it's almost over and done with.
That being said I did finally manage to finish up some projects from the year and working like an elf on Christmas eve right now trying to finish up for next week. This is a walnut farm table that I finally finished up yesterday and delivered to it's home last night. This lumber was actually supplied by the customer in a unique way. It's what I would say is old growth lumber that had been cut on a rotary sawmill I don't know how many years ago.
It's got 5"x5" oak post legs and is about 4 foot wide and 7 foot long.
A huge thank you to Roger at DMJ cabinet shop for spraying an incredible lacquer finish.
So hang tight cause the projects are hopefully gonna be rolling out the door here in the next few days folks. But for now, saw ya later!!!

Going through my pictures and I forgot one of my new customers sent me a picture of this little table he built not long ago. It's really pretty aside from the fact he used red oak and painted it black. But it's his and I don't get to have a say what happens after the material leaves.

Again good evening folks. Trying to get caught up on some of the projects going on around the shop this spring. Just finished up a live edge white oak counter top and a live edge bar top also. These pictures are the raw material, the customer is taking care of the finish and install so hopefully finished product pictures are to come in the near future.

Good evening folks! Been running way behind on keeping things updated on what's been going on around here. But I had a customer needing a little bit of walnut here awhile back. He sent me a picture of what he needed it for the other day. An airplane propeller! I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's decoration only but either way it's pretty cool

Ok folks I had a comment that I could make the dowel a little longer with a bigger base and make a paper towel holder. WELL...I actually made myself a paper towel holder when I made these scrunchy holders and here it is. It's the same walnut base and the poplar dowel just a taller version. But it does look pretty cool sitting on the counter in the morning or when company comes over.
Alright folks that's enough babble for tonight. SAW YA LATER!

Good evening folks. So last night my girlfriend Carrie and I were talking and she got to talking about these scrunchy holders folks are making. Of course I KNOW what a scrunchy is, but she showed me a couple pictures and then the price tags on these 1 x 4 pieces of pine with a tooth pick in the middle. WELL, low and behold when I walked in the shop this morning I went straight to my odds and ends pile and came up with my take on these scrunchy holders. I ended up with some pretty cool live edge walnut pieces around 5 1/2 inches across and drilled and glued a 1" poplar dowel in it and sprayed 3 coats of satin clear coat on them.
Now the girls should have a pretty cool place to hang their scrunchies.
Saw ya later folks!

9 years. 9 years doesn't sound like a whole lot in some situations or instances. But 9 years ago I was driving home from Mt. Vernon Missouri with 2 big crates in the back of the truck and this funny looking orange machine in tow. Granted it's about a 6 hour drive home and about half way home I started thinking to myself "self I sure hope this is a good idea". Fast forward to today and here we are, getting busier all the time, cutting new woods and meeting new folks and building friendships with others. For those of you that know me and have dealt with me this last 9 years I say a huge thank you and hope to keep going in this forward direction and see if our foresight is 2020.
So to everyone out there in Facebook land, friends and new comers, welcome and thank you. That being said, from the sawmill guy here, we'll saw ya later!!

One more time for the evening folks and it's bedtime. But again it's been that busy with the sawmill. Milled up some gorgeous looking ash last week for a very good customer. The 2nd picture is probably kinda confusing for some of you but I had a band break which isn't that major of a deal other than this one bound up and came back at me and missed my hand by maybe 6 inches. That sounds like alot but a band full of teeth spinning around 3000 rpms comes popping and jumping out at ya in the blink of an eye, 6 inches isn't much real estate to work with. But everything is still intact so far. But for now from the ol sawmill guy here, we'll saw ya later!!
