We had a great first sales day at The Back Forty! Thanks to everyone who picked up your plants today. I have a few orders set aside but will still have a decent selection for the coming weeks. One more cold snap and we should be all clear! Message me for a list of available veggie plants and limited selection of perennial flowers.

πŸ‹πŸŒΆοΈπŸ«‘πŸ‡πŸ§„πŸπŸ…πŸ†πŸ§…πŸ“ Hello all! I’m posting to see if there are any others who are interested in donating their extra harvests this season. I operate a home Nursery and do private sales but my passion is my veggie garden! I put a lot of time and love into it and love sharing my harvest with friends and neighbors. This year, I am partnering with a local no-profit to organize donation days from local gardeners who have extra to give. I will offer weekly drop off days every Monday throughout the growing season. Eggs too! Please message me if you would like to be added to the giving list! Happy planting!!!

Time for a Back Forty update!

I’ve had a few people reach out to ask about specific plants and my garden delivery packs. Yes I’m still offering garden packs but because of time restraints this year I will only be delivering for orders of $50 or more. Deliveries will be limited to Mondays and all other sales are by appointment only. The appointment sales seemed to work out well last year and I really enjoyed getting the one on one with so many garden enthusiasts in the community!

In addition to sales, The Back Forty will be organizing a community harvest donation point all season long. As many home gardeners and urban-homesteaders know, there’s always extra! My personal favorite part of growing my own food is getting to share it. I’m working with a local non-profit to organize deliveries of donated fresh local harvests to charities and families in need. As fresh produce and eggs are harder to budget for these days, they are not making it into the pantries that could use them the most. My goal is to donate fresh goods on a weekly basis. More details about The Back Forty donation point to come!

I’m so excited about this season and cannot wait to connect with you! Happy planting!!! 🌱

Chicks 🐣 are an important part of my garden! Once our harvest is over, I let them loose and they eat up any pests that made their way in over the summer. Also nibbling the leftovers and leaving behind their organic fertilizer! These little ones are silkies and frizzles. Sure to be a great addition to our flock!

Remember when you plan your garden, each crop requires different nutrients. Rotating where you plant can be a simple way to keep the balance right. Let the plants die off before removing so they regenerate the soil. Healthier soil means more delicious homegrown veggies!

This is what regenerative farming can look like. This is a picture of the Eden Project in Cornwall, England. Unlike conventional monoculture planting, this polyculture system diversifies the soil life, making plants less susceptible to pests and disease. (Photo by Franie Treetops @ Flickr).

Regenerative farming applies the Buddhist wisdom of pratΔ«tyasamutpāda (dependent origination) and inter-being to agriculture. One could also describe this as aligning with the ecological wisdom of Nature, what some African cultures call "ubuntu" - the Indigenous wisdom that all LIFE is interdependently related as a whole, and thrives best as One family -πŸ™πŸ’•
