Very serious question for you today: Are you a “one load a day” laundry do-er or a “laundry day” kind of person… or something else?

I’m team “it varies by week and usually stays in the basket too long.” Zero stars, Do not recommend that.

I was thinking about this, not because I’m not trying to sell you on any method. Landry is just not the most fun thing you can do. But I recently read that having a “laundry day” where you get loads as full as reasonably possible is more energy efficient. That’s good info when it is 9,000° outside right now and our electric bill is projected to be about a bajillion dollars.

PS I am washing Tripp’s sheet’s today and I feel like I should tell all tween/teen boy moms that Lavender Orange is the very best scent for a little room refresher. The orange is such a fresh, clean spell and the lavender is always a the perfect bedroom scent. It’s not too fruity or perfumey and works to clear out all the boy smells. It’s borderline miraculous. A quick spray on the bed each day and you can at least forget for a moment want an interesting stage of life this is 😂

If you give me a vintage lamp, I’m going to go looking for something else to change. It’s just a fact. Wouldn’t you know, I was sitting on the couch writing my post about the kitchen lamp last week when I notice another circa 2020 Target piece staring back at me.

There is nothing wrong with this little metal drum table (last picture.) It’s a great way to add some warmth and texture with the metal. The scale is just right for the spot BUT it just doesn’t feel like me anymore.

Now, I’ve had this little table for years, like 20 plus years and it was old when I got it. It’s one of those pieces, like the library chair, that finds its way to the right place at the right time. I’ll never paint it and never get rid of it. I’ve been using it in the guest room where she fits perfectly, but she needs to shine more right here. It can wide or narrow, whatever the space needs. It’s the perfect little table.

I am constantly moving things around and changing them and my boys humor it very well. They really don’t care in a good way… as in the house is constantly different and they just roll with it. But they have both told me how much they love this table here! It’s a win all around!

Are we still loving little changes? I know I am!

PS The real moral of this story is to collect what you love and notice what you always go back to. We can be suckers for that “shiney object” the internet tells you that you must have when really the things that make a home feel like home are the things that you love most. Can I get an amen?

Antique Parlor Table: This gorgeous table spent most of its life in the most amazing home right down the road. But like the house itself, it had seen better days. Restoring this table was truly an act of love and it was miraculous to see its true character come through. She is a beauty now. Quarter-sawn oak (aka Tiger oak because of the beautiful pattern) that I stained a deep walnut to play up the richness. It’s sealed in satin for that perfect look. This table is truly something special and I can’t wait to see the next home she finds. She is a a teeny bit wobbly because of her age but has beautiful second life left in her for the next home. (and take a little look a the Chairish listing at the end for a very similar table😳)

Measurements: 29 tall 24x 24
Your price: $325

A little lamp in the kitchen is a hard and fast rule for me. I must have one. Even better if it is on a timer to magically turn on right before I go get my coffee each morning. And yesterday I upgraded my kitchen lamp in a big way... because you know, it’s the week of small changes!

I’ve been thinking the one I had wasn’t right for a long time (last picture). There was nothing “wrong” with it other than the fact that it feels Target (because it is Target 😉) and my house isn’t really Target anymore. I thought of DIYing to make it feel a little less “mass produced.” Even changing the shape of the shade would give it some character. But once I tried out this vintage beauty, it was all over.

If we’re being really truthful the kitchen has been a little too full of sourdough, canning jars and garden goodies all summer long so as the garden starts to wind down, it’s a great time to edit a little and I’m glad I did! I needed an “edit” to tidy a bit again and to get rid of styles that just don’t fit my house as much.

What could use a little edit in your house? Anything that just doesn’t feel like you anymore?

PS Vintage lamps are always better but be sure the cords and wiring are good! You can change them out and keep all the charm of the lamp so be safe!

I shouldn’t even admit this. I had this piece for years before I really paid attention to the fact that the hardware was a little beachy (see the next to last picture) The white blends so well and it’s fine… especially since this piece’s strength is the fact that it is a handmade hodgepodge but I think we can do better.

I traded one k**b out for a simple one I had from another project but then one day I had a 💡I just so happened to have a few of these vintage lion head pulls. Now, I’m not about to add some concrete lions out front anytime soon, but you know how I feel about Aslan, so anywhere I can add a little lion makes my heart happy.

Is it a bit random? Absolutely!
Does it fit the time period of the piece? Who knows and who cares because that’s the charm of it
Is it better than the beachy looking hardware? In my house YES! (If we ever have a beach house I reserve the right to re-evaluate that statement)

I think I’m just going to declare this the week of small changes. Small changes can really be such a good boost. What small changes have you made?

PS changing hardware is about the easiest think you can do. If you have a screwdriver you can handle it! If it doesn’t fit, you can always try different screws. I keep a set of hardware screws in my toolbox

How are you friends? We are still trying to ease our way back into school work (so far so good even with 7th grade math starting this week 🙏🏻) and the just kind of makes everything a little extra. The garden is giving us that last bits of goodness and I’m adding in some fall seeds to keep it going as long as possible. It doesn’t even seem possible that summer is on the way out. We blinked. While I’m ready for the cooldown, I know how fast that means the rest of the year is going to go… but we won’t go there today.

If we were sitting down for an afternoon coffee (iced, obvs because it is gross hot again) what good things would you share with me? I would love to hear what’s going on in your world!

PS There is a newsletter going out THURSDAY that not only gives you first dibs on something fun but there will be a pretty big sale on one of your favorites so be sure you’re on the list for that!

Can we take just a moment for teachers? Whew, you are angels and no one could ever pay you enough for the job you do. We homeschool for a million reasons but not a single one of those reasons is because of teachers. I firmly believe that good teachers are the very best reason to choose traditional school. Your job is hard, nearly impossible at times but your heart is bigger so you keep the world learning! Teachers, thank you for doing what you do! ❤️

If you need a little something to help show your favorite teachers how much you appreciate them, I put together a few little gift bags. They have an Emily Lex Checklist Notepad and pen (these are seriously the very best pens!) and a Little Seed Lip Salve… just a nice little treat that shows your appreciation. Grab one today!

PS These are a $25 value for $20 but I only have a few so grab them now if you want them! We can do porch pickup TODAY or if you want it shipped they’ll go out tomorrow. Maybe my student should send me one too 😉

I took a few new goodies to our spot at the last week so let’s take a little walk around. If you haven’t been to the Merc lately consider this your not so gentle push to GET YOURSELF THERE! Not only can you shop with us but there are nearly 40 other small business under one roof and it’s all really good stuff. I cannot walk out of there without at least a little something (and usually a little something extra, extra if Tripp is with me 😉)

Thank you for supporting us and so many other small businesses! It really means the world ❤️

PS Small town shopping is the very best. Where else can you get soap, a knife, laundry detergent, a book, bread, gifts for nearly everyone on your list, coffee, a quilt… and that’s just the start. It’s so much better than Wal-Mart! Can I get an Amen to that?

While summer is really a sweet season, we start back to school next week and I’m ready. Now, I’m not “ready” as in I have everything in order, planned out and prepared. Nope. I’m working on that part. I have done a lot of preparations but still have more to go so I’m ready-ish in that way. I’m just ready for a return to a bit of “normalcy.” While our routines a more flexible than most, it’s still nice to settle back into them.

How are you feeling about July approaching the end? I promise I’m not pushing pumpkins anytime soon (I may be planting them but not pushing them 😉) but I’m personally ready for the shift to start.

PS for those that are new here you may not know we homeschool! We’re starting our seventh year and that doesn’t even seem possible. So when I say I’m “ready for the normalcy of school,” I don’t mean sending my kid off on the school bus, I mean keeping him home with me and enjoying our time together even more all day long. We love homeschool (most days 😉! )
