The “Fairy Castle Cactus” earned it’s name from its clusters of columnar green branches that resemble spires of a castle.

It is native to North and Central America and can be found in Southern Florida, Texas, and Mexico.

It is easy to care for with the right conditions, and has a popular reputation as a houseplant. However, it should be noted that this is species can grow as tall as 6 feet!
Thankfully, it is very slow growing, and can be enjoyed in a small container for quite a while.

Have you ever heard of the “Fairy Castle Cactus”? Feel free to ask me any questions about this lovely species.

One of my favorite species of prickly pear is the ‘Bunny Ear Cactus’ (Opuntia Microdasys). Isn’t it cute? 🙂 🌵🌵🌵🌵

“Mammillaria hahniana” aka the “Old Lady Cactus” belongs to one of the largest families of cacti native to central Mexico.

They get their Nickname from the small white hairs that develop as they mature.
The hairs, called “tomentum” are a survival strategy to help plants stay cool in the hot deserts in which they are found. These hairs are utilized by many other species of cacti, including the “old man cactus”.

Another one of its distinctive features is a ‘flower crown’ of bright pink blooms that form in late winter to early spring.
These blooms turn into small edible fruits that have a sweet and tangy flavor similar to strawberry.

It is a forgiving and low maintenance species that is good for beginners.
It does best in high light environments, with supplemental lighting provided during the winter months.
It requires very little water and “thrives on neglect”. Only water then the soil is completely dry, and crunchy. In the winter months do not water the cactus at all.

Overall, this is a great species to get if you are looking for a low maintenance, but beautiful cacti for your home.
