High winds rolled through West Michigan, and storms like this can leave behind broken limbs, split trees, and dangerous situations around homes, driveways, and power lines.

If you have a tree down or a damaged tree on your property, our crew is ready to respond. We are equipped to handle emergency tree work safely and efficiently.

Not every storm-damaged tree needs to be removed, but many can become hazardous if they are left unchecked. We’re happy to take a look, give honest advice, and help you determine the safest next step.

If you were affected by the winds, give us a call. We’re here to help.

Tree Education Tip: Co-Dominant Stems = Future Problems

This photo shows a stump from a tree with co-dominant stems — and as you can see, it’s completely rotten in the middle.

When a tree grows with two main stems competing for dominance, it creates a weak union. There’s often included bark trapped between them, which prevents the stems from bonding properly. Over time, moisture gets in, decay begins, and it becomes a structural failure waiting to happen.

Most homeowners don’t realize there’s an issue until:
• A strong wind storm hits
• One stem splits apart
• Or worse — it falls on something valuable

The tough truth is that co-dominant stems almost always lead to internal rot eventually. It’s not if — it’s when.

If you have a tree on your property that splits into two large leaders, it’s worth having it evaluated. In some cases, structural pruning early on can help. In others, removal may be the safest long-term option.

Give us a call and let our team take a look. We’ll provide honest advice and help you make the best decision for your property.

Winter Tree Work Season Is Here!

We’re excited to get out to your property this winter and help take care of your trees! Winter is a great time for pruning, removals, and addressing problem trees while they’re dormant. With fewer leaves and firm ground conditions, it’s often safer, cleaner, and easier to get the job done right.

If you’ve been thinking about tree work, now is the perfect time to schedule. We look forward to coming out, meeting you, and helping keep your property safe and your trees healthy all winter long!

Proud of this crew — and the families who stand behind them.

The hard work, long days, and dedication you see in the field wouldn’t be possible without the support at home. We’re grateful not only for our skilled, hardworking crew, but also for the families who cheer them on, sacrifice with them, and are part of the McFarland and Sons Tree Service family too.

It takes a strong team on the job and at home to make this all happen — and we’re thankful for all of it.

Give us a call to see them in action!
