Starting our garden indoors has never been a big part of our homestead. In fact, we've only been doing this for about 4 years. Mostly we start tomatoes, peppers and flowers. Otherwise we have a long enough season, we can grow everything else from seed.

That being said, it is nice to not buy tomato plants or pepper plants from local nurseries but instead grow them from seed. But that has taken us years to finally achieve.

If you are new to gardening or homesteading, don't feel pressured to grow everything from seed. Start small and expand. Home grown food can be from seed, plants bought locally or even food bought from local farmers and farmers markets.

Just doing a little overtime can make a big difference. Don't listen to all the outside noise. Do what works for your family.

A pantry staple. Homemade vanilla makes the perfect holiday gift for friends and neighbors. It's a tasty addition to their homestead pantry.
