Hail damage can be difficult to spot when viewing your roof from the street—especially if you’re not trained in what to look for. And even if you are able to spot some impact to your shingles from a previous hail storm, it’s easy to underestimate the importance of addressing the damage as quickly as you can. We understand that the damage can appear minimal, but the impact to your home can be great. When hail hits your roof, it affects the sandy coating of your shingles, and this coating is important because it protects the layer of asphalt below it. When this asphalt is exposed, the ultaviolet rays from the sun cause that asphalt to dry up and crack creating the perfect environment for a leaky roof.

WHAT IS A PUBLIC ADJUSTER AND WHY ARE THEY IMPORTANT?
A public adjuster (PA) is someone who is licensed by the state departments of insurance to represent and advocate for homeowners rights when filing a claim.

Any time you file a claim for damage that your home has sustained, your insurance company will send a licensed insurance adjuster to assess the damages your property may have incurred. They are also sent to determine the cause of the damages (i.e due to hail, wind, or other), and what the overall value is that’s owed to the homeowner. Because these adjusters work for the insurance company, their job is to view the damages through the lens of the claim and to minimize the covered losses to be paid to the homeowner.

By contrast, a public adjuster’s only job is to advocate for the homeowner in this process and to hold the insurance company accountable to fully indemnify you for any and all covered losses. A public adjuster is the expert you can lean on to help you navigate the process and ensure someone is looking out for your best interest.
