Since the winter weather breaks, until the 4th of July holiday, we are crazy busy at V’s. It has been that way since we started in 1998. Many of our customers have been with us since the beginning and we are very appreciative of all our customers, long timers and new.

As you celebrate our country’s Independence Day, we hope you are able enjoy your outdoor living space we have been creating and maintaining. Take some time to relax and enjoy. Be safe. Wash your hands. Happy 4th!

Lilacs get credit for springtime fragrance, but our favorite is fragrant Viburnum. You get 4 seasons of show from this one shrub:

Beautiful buds that will go red and open to a white flower with a spicy-sweet scent unlike any other

Quality foliage that looks good all growing season

Reddish-purple fall color

Branch structure with winter interest.

And it is resilient. Notice the dead branches that we cut down and the shrub came right back to life with new branches.

The biggest benefit to hiring us to clean your leaves is not having to do it yourself. Winter can be depressing enough without leaving a pile of leaves that appear after every snow thaw. Plus, it's important not to let leaves collect on the turf for too long. Excess leaves on the lawn blocks sunlight and reduces water evaporation, which can cause fungus and disease. Aside from it looking bad all winter long, you will have damaged grass and higher spring cleanup costs. Contact us; we can help!

Our winters can be harsh on evergreens. Make sure all evergreens are sufficiently watered for the next month to reduce the possibility of dehydration in the winter. If the next month is rainy, no water is necessary. If it's less than an 1" a week, you should thoroughly water once a week for up to three weeks. Yews like it dry, but supplemental watering of Boxwood, Arbs and other evergreens maybe necessary.

You know we have an early snow when leaves are still on trees and on top of the snow. It's a heavy snow and ice mix. If you have hanging branches, you can secure them, but don't try to move, because they can break.
