Another custom inset kitchen completed! This one is cleared rift sawn white oak with a tricorn black wet bar! Gotta love these custom legs for the island and cooktop area.

Ever wonder how we get stain so even?
Toning! After we stain all our pieces they go back into the booth to get toned so they are all even and similar because wood is a natural product and each piece will take stain a little different from another piece. Toning brings them all closer together in coloring!

Let’s clear something up, because this gets misrepresented constantly.

Not all “custom cabinets” are actually custom.

Many builders, contractors, designers, and even cabinet shops advertise custom cabinetry. But in reality, they are ordering from semi custom cabinet lines. These cabinets are manufactured by large companies in standard sizes, shipped to the dealer, and then installed into your home.

They may offer finish options, door styles, and modifications. They may adjust fillers or use trim pieces to make it appear built in. But the cabinet boxes themselves were not built specifically for your space.

If your cabinets are being ordered from a manufacturer, distributor, or catalog and delivered to be installed, that is not custom cabinetry. That is semi custom cabinetry.

True custom cabinetry is fundamentally different.

True custom cabinetry is designed and fabricated specifically for your home, from raw materials. Every cabinet is built to the exact dimensions required. Heights align intentionally. Appliance panels fit precisely. Fillers are minimized or eliminated. Proportions are correct because the cabinetry was built for the space, not adapted to it.

Construction methods, materials, joinery, and finishes are fully controlled. Nothing is limited by what a manufacturer offers. The result is cabinetry that feels integrated into the architecture of the home, not installed into it.

There is nothing wrong with semi custom cabinetry. It serves a purpose and can be a good solution depending on the project and budget. But it should be represented honestly.

At SWFL Custom Cabinetry, our cabinetry is designed and fabricated in house. We do not order cabinet boxes from manufacturers. We build them locally. Every project is constructed specifically for the client and the space.

This level of control is what allows for a higher level of fit, finish, and overall result.

If you are planning a project, make sure you understand what you are actually being quoted. The terms are often used interchangeably, but they are not the same.
