What started as a simple backyard is now a Sonoma-inspired retreat that invites you to slow down and stay awhile.

By layering textures, defining outdoor “rooms,” and weaving in timeless details, our team transformed this space into an extension of the home — expansive yet intimate.

This Nashville backyard had good bones but nothing to slow you down — just a side yard that got you from point A to point B.

Now? It's a Japanese-style garden that feels like its own little world. Moss beds instead of turf. A meandering stone path. A stone pagoda lantern tucked against the brick. Japanese maples that turn the whole space warm and golden as the sun drops.

Our design-build team handled every piece of this project, from the initial concept through installation — the stonework, the plant palette, the landscape lighting that makes the path glow at night. It's one of our favorite recent projects because it shows what's possible even in a smaller, shaded footprint: you don't need a sprawling yard to create a real retreat, just a thoughtful design.

This backyard had plenty of space—it just wasn't being used.

The homeowners wanted more than a lawn. They wanted a place where they could relax, entertain, garden, and enjoy being outside.

Our team completely reimagined the space by adding:
• A custom paver patio
• Natural stone retaining walls and steps
• Proper irrigation and drainage
• Raised garden beds
• Landscape lighting
• A custom water feature
• Beautiful plantings that soften the space and provide year-round interest

Now, every part of the backyard has a purpose—from growing fresh herbs and vegetables to unwinding beside the sound of flowing water.
