Can poor attic ventilation cause a roof to age years too early?
At this Middle Tennessee home, we found a ventilation system that was not moving enough air through the attic. One section had poor intake, while another had almost no exhaust.
The result was trapped heat beneath the roof. After only about eight years, the shingles were already becoming brittle, dried out, and showing premature wear.
The fix was not simply adding more vents.
Mr. GoodRoof evaluated the roof design, intake, exhaust, and existing vent layout, then corrected the ventilation system and installed turbine vents where they were appropriate.
**The measurable result:**
Outdoor temperature: approximately **92–93°F**
Attic temperature after the correction: approximately **95–98°F**
Now the attic can release trapped heat instead of continually overheating the roofing system.
If your upstairs stays unusually hot, your attic feels excessively warm, or your shingles seem to be aging too quickly, the problem may be more than the shingles themselves.
