Exactly one year between these videos. And about 30lbs.

Is the change obvious? Honestly it’s hard for me to tell because it was slow and gradual, but physically? Mentally? I feel like a completely different person. I can run faster, lift heavier and I’m motivated more than ever to keep going.

What did I change?

Well, besides moving from Canada to Texas and changing my entire life…

1. Drinking more water and adding Beam Glow everyday.
2. Joining a gym and going to 3-5 classes per week. My faves are LES MILLS Body Pump and Combat. Shoutout Sarah Gruba for getting me started and inspiring me to keep going.
3. Swapping my morning coffee and toast to a protein shake after my morning workout (with caffeine I’m not crazy).
4. Prioritizing making meals I enjoy and not just eating the leftovers my kids didn’t eat.
5. Choosing me. Understanding that I’m in control of my mind and body and I want both to be strong!

One year down, and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

I almost died. I had to walk at least 2KM.

And the craziest part? No, it wasn’t me choosing to run in a million degree heat. It was the fact that there were so many people on the trails doing the same thing.

We all waved and looked at each other like this 🥵🥴

I was maxed out.

We had left at 8:30am, battled traffic, travelled by subway, navigated busy city streets, dodged crowds Ripley's Aquarium of Canada and CN Tower / Tour CN and then decided to visit The Eaton Center before calling it day.

It was 5pm, rush hour out of the city. Sitting on the subway holding bags from shopping, a backpack full of water bottles digging into my shoulders, I watched my girls snuggle and excitedly talk about the best day ever. They were comparing their newly adopted Sad Nuggie and I smiled despite feeling exhausted.

An older woman met my eyes and smiled under her mask.

“These days are beautiful,” she said.

I smiled back and told her it was quite the day. She told me my girls were precious and how she used to do the same with her kids. Take them on adventures and get them special treats.

My youngest started regaling her about our day, despite the jostling and noise of the crowded car.

As she got off at her stop, she looked back…

“They’ll cherish this one day. You cherish it now.”

I sat with that. And realized she was right. I may not love the city. But I loved being there with my girls. I loved their excitement, their innocence and their bravery for trying new things. I am so happy I chose to make memories with them.

Maybe the city isn’t so bad after all.
