We charge for good fast quality work, done by professionals. Liability and comp are not cheap!
You’re Not Broke Because of the Economy — You’re Broke Because You’re Underpricing Your Skill.
Let’s stop blaming gas prices.
Let’s stop blaming slow seasons.
Let’s stop blaming “cheap customers.”
Most lawn guys aren’t struggling because of the economy.
They’re struggling because they’re charging like it’s 2009.
Let’s do real math.
If you’re charging $40 per lawn:
• 10 lawns in a day = $400
• Fuel, maintenance, insurance, equipment wear = easily 20–30%
• Now you’re at maybe $280–$320 before taxes
• After taxes? You’re closer to $220–$260 take home
That’s for a FULL day.
Now let’s compare.
If you price correctly at $75 per lawn:
• 10 lawns = $750
• Same 25% overhead = $562
• After taxes? Roughly $450+
Same effort.
Same mower.
Same 8–10 hours.
One guy makes $250.
One guy makes $450.
The difference isn’t the economy.
It’s confidence.
Here’s the uncomfortable truth:
If you’re charging $40, you’re not “competitive.”
You’re telling the market your time is worth less.
You’re attracting price shoppers.
You’re training customers to devalue you.
You’re building a business that depends on volume instead of margin.
And volume without margin = burnout.
The economy didn’t make you undercharge.
Fear did.
Fear of losing the job.
Fear of hearing “that’s too high.”
Fear of raising prices.
Professionals price for profit.
Side hustlers price for approval.
If you want to scale…
If you want crews…
If you want real money…
Stop pricing like you’re desperate.
Price like you’re running a business.
