TIP #1: WAIT FOR LEAVES TO FALL
Although it can be tempting to grab that rake and get out there the moment the first leaves start falling off the trees and to the ground, don’t do it. If you do so, you will only be making more work for yourself. Instead of raking frequently at the first sign of floor foliage, wait until a good amount of leaves have accumulated before you get to work. This way, you will have to rake your leaves less often and get more done each time.
TIP #2: MOW YOUR LAWN
Who would have guessed that keeping your grass cropped would help you to rake your leaves better? Throughout the fall, it is a good practice to keep your lawn mowed to a healthy height, so when you go to rake your leaves, you don’t have to tug and struggle with getting the rake through the grass.
TIP #3: WEAR PROPER ATTIRE
Did you know that there is proper attire for leaf raking? Turns out there is! When you go out to rake your lawn in the fall, you want to be sure to protect your skin not just from the cool air, but from the hard work as well. Be sure to wear strong gloves to protect your hands from cuts and blisters, as well as long pants and long sleeves to protect your body. It is also a good idea to wear a mask or scarf over your face to protect it, too.
TIP #4: RAKE DOWNHILL
Nothing will exhaust you more--and put an end to your raking adventures--quite like raking leaves going uphill. Make it easy for yourself and focus on raking downhill. Sounds pretty self-explanatory, but you would be surprised at how many people rake uphill. You will save your strength and exert less effort this way, which will allow you to cover more ground without getting winded!
