Again we want to thank you all for coming to the board meeting and also keeping in touch via messenger/ email. The Updates we can share with you all at the moment are as follows...
1. the rental fees for park grass area and pavilion WERE dropped significantly for this summer.
This also means next summer will most likely not be discounted at all (which is fine as long as we are paying a REASONABLE fee like EVERYONE else) ESP FOR A FREE PUBLIC EVENT THAT COORDINATORS DO NOT GET PAID FOR
We have not been able to located the pavilion and Hazelwood grass rates online at all so if anyone happens to come across it or has their receipts from their previous bill please reach out.
2. Some of you who came to the meeting might be thinking wow that went pretty smooth. why is ROWB teams still so upset about?
A: we have been bullied and pushed around by some members and we will not tolerate it any longer. The concerns we have brought up multiple times to multiple department heads and have yet to be handled. Just because someone lowers a price to accommodate THIS SUMMER AFTER A COMMUNITY CALL TO ACTION doesn't equal the amount lost over the last few years, especially when the prices at this point seem to be made up figures that clearly can be adjusted at anytime.
We were given 75% off the rental rate bringing us to 525.00 for the rental fee for the 2 dates. However the math isn't mathing. Even with the 2 figures given to us at the previous meeting w NBPB and FOLLOWING MEETING W/NBPRB 525.00 @75 % off doesn't add up. (again where are these figures coming from and where is it located publicly?)
3. nbprb could have sponsored the event in good faith to make the wrongs right vs toss it back on the park boards hands. instead they chose not to sponsor because our visions for this type of event are very different and ROWB is not in favor of handing over any community built programing due to past practice within NBPRB of event absorption and death of the creativity and programing. (RIP FOLK FEST)
recap
no sponsorship = added costs
1. insurance approx 1100 pd
2. firewatch approx 370 pd
3. police approx 860 pd
4. rental fee w/ discount 525
5. trash removal est 400 pd
6. trash/ recycling cans est 25 pd
est $6,035 w/o city sponsor w/ discount rental rate (not even close to what is owed to us)
vs
est $2,120 with city sponsorship
these are not our total expenses to run FREE PUBLIC EVENTS these are just the top city related fees
Rather than address, fix, and finally hash out the issues they took what seems like imaginary figures off a made up bill in hopes that would suffice. Thanks for the discounted rate, however this will not get swept under the rug again. The mistreatment we have endured over the last few seasons WILL NOT GO UNHEARD. We asked for those involved to make this right and apologize and that has yet to happen. WE WONT STOP SPEAKING UNTIL SOMEONE STARTS LISTENING TO UNDERSTAND... NOT LISTENING TO RESPOND
anyway... community members thanks again ! stock up on the sunscreen and pack your beach bags its going to be a fun summer.
