I can’t express enough the importance of hiring a licensed and insured electrician. I’m working on a flip at the moment and this was behind a recently remodled wall. I’m amazed people are willing to jeopardize their homes to save a few dollars. According to the fema website. In 2024 there was 23,700 fires, 305 deaths, 800 injuries, and 1,501,600,000 dollars in damages as the result of electrical fires. Don’t be apart of this statistic and reach out to a licensed and insured electrical contractor.

You never know the electrical dangers that lie within your home. While at this house for a completely unrelated issue I came across this open junction box with an eerily taped up wire. Upon further investigation I found this taped up “fix”. Removed/replaced wire and made safe of open splices. A year ago today I got to this customers house at just the right time. This outlet was live with a heater plugged into. I was told a handyman added this outlet a few months before. Two lessons to this story

1. I always urge customers to refrain from using portable space heaters in their home. There are safer more efficient ways to heat areas of your home.

2. NEVER hire someone who cannot provide proper license and insurance as it’s your home that’s on the line. If this persons home was to burn down as a result of this their homeowners insurance wouldn’t cover them as they had an unqualified non insured individual perform electrical work on their home. So before hiring the cheapest option ask yourself, is it really worth it?
