I hauled and spread 750 pounds of construction sand in this summer heat thinking the chickens were going to love it… and now they’re too scared to even walk on it. 🙄😂🐔 Nothing like putting in all that work just for the flock to look at you like you completely ruined their yard!

She shows up almost every evening around 6 o’clock like she has a standing dinner reservation. 😂🦝 She doesn’t bother anything and usually just helps herself to the chicken food. And y’all, before anyone says it—I KNOW raccoons can absolutely be dangerous to chickens. 🤦‍♀️🐔 I’m very aware of that and I watch her closely whenever she’s around. Maybe one day she could decide to change her mind, but for now this particular raccoon just cracks me up. 😂 Please just enjoy the picture for what it is—it’s weirdly comical to me! 🙂

My chicken somehow managed to get herself stuck inside a roll of hardware cloth because she was absolutely determined to lay her egg on the other side of it. 😂🐔🥚 Thankfully she’s totally fine, and after I rearranged a few things, she was finally able to make her little dream come true and lay her egg exactly where she wanted. I swear, I love that little idiot so much. 🤣❤️

My parents have been buying eggs from a local chicken farmer, and they always pick up a couple dozen for me while I’m patiently waiting for my own hens to finally reach laying age. 🐔🥚 This morning I cracked one open for breakfast and definitely wasn’t expecting to find THIS inside! 😳😂 Talk about a surprise first thing in the morning!

Y’all… I think I officially have myself a house chicken. Literally. 😆🐔🏡 I originally brought her inside because my two roosters were picking on her, but now she has decided indoor life is definitely for her. 😂 At this point, whenever she sees another chicken anywhere near her, she runs straight to the door wanting back inside. If I try to put her outside, I have to physically pick her up and carry her out, and then she just sits right in front of the door looking absolutely terrified. 🥺❤️ I’m seriously about to buy this spoiled girl a dog bed and some chicken diapers and just accept my fate. 🤣 Does anyone else have an indoor chicken? Here’s a picture of my spoiled little house girl!

Getting everything ready for the cold snap that’s coming! ❄️🐔 We don’t use any heat in our coop, but we’ve found that this setup really helps keep the temperature inside noticeably warmer than it is outdoors. We layer thick furniture blankets over the metal roof, cover those with tarps and secure everything down, then stack straw bales around the coop where everyone sleeps. 🏡🌾 I also add plenty of pine shavings inside and use thick cardboard along the walls for extra insulation. The runs are lined with clear tarps too, which helps block those cold winter winds while still letting in some light. Stay warm, everyone! 🥰❄️

I’ve had so many people asking what kind of “sand” I use in my coop and run, and I could never remember the technical name for it. 😂🐔 So I stopped by my supplier today and finally got the answer! It’s called lime rock screenings, also known as lime rock fines. 🪨✨ It’s basically crushed lime rock with a sandy texture and small pieces of rock mixed throughout. The little rock pieces can also provide some of the grit chickens need, and the lime rock contains calcium as well. I added the original picture again so you can see exactly what it looks like! 🐓🏡
