...ELEVATED RISK OF WILDFIRE SPREAD SATURDAY...

A combination of dry air and very dry fuels on Saturday will
create an elevated risk of wildfire spread in western
Pennsylvania. Minimum relative humidity values will range from 20
to 30 percent. Winds could occasionally gust 15 to 25 mph for the
lowlands and 20 to 25 mph for the ridges.

Residents are urged to exercise caution if handling any potential
ignition sources, such as machinery, ci******es, or matches.
If dry grasses and tree litter begin to burn, the fire will have
the potential to spread rapidly.

...INCREASED FIRE DANGER THIS AFTERNOON...

Low relative humidity values resulting from exceptionally dry
weather will impose an increased risk for fire danger this
afternoon. Relative humidity values are expected to drop as low as
30% during peak heating hours across southwestern Pennsylvania.
In addition, westerly wind gusts to 15-20 mph at times are
expected this afternoon, and this will work in tandem with the low
RH values to create an increased risk for fire danger. Exercise
enhanced caution with activities that involve open flames or
sparks as fires can easily spread in these weather conditions.

Route 56 is CLOSED from the intersection with Route 711 in Seward Borough, Westmoreland County, PA to the City of Johnstown, Cambria County, PA. This is due to an incident in Cambria County. Traffic is being detoured via Route 403.

Rather than continuing to share the same map showing most of PA rated as “high” fire danger, we thought we’d share a photo of the 150+ acre wildfire currently burning in Northampton County, PA.

The message is the same: Conditions are ripe for even a small fire to quickly get out of control. Please DO NOT burn!
