โ๏ธ The Door County Highway Department believes we are going to get the worst of what Snowstorm Elsa has to offer. They have issued the following statement: โ๏ธ
With snowfall totals through Monday most recently forecasted at 28 to 35 inches and winds gusting as high as 45 mph our department is asking all residents to help our crew by staying off the roads during this storm.
Heavy snow and winds will create blizard like conditions making it very difficult for any cars on the road to be seen especially in the overnight hours. The combined snowfall totals and extreme winds will make this a difficult storm for our staff and equipment to plow. Using today's snow as a practice run...the heavy wet snow and winds had us not only plowing roads but clearing downed trees so our crews could get thorugh. We assume this will be the case Sunday into Monday as well.
Our plan is to have our crew out in full force Sunday to try to keep the State Highway and County roads as clear as possible during the storm. We do not have a staff level to allow us round the clock shifts, however we will keep minimal staff on overnight while we send the majority of the crew home to rest for a few hours before they come back in early Monday morning to continue the clean up operations. Our priority during the overnighte hours is to focus on keeping the State Highway System open and safe for emergency response personnel. A storm of this nature will take several days to completely clear. We ask for your patience as our crew works long hours to make our roads safe and travelable for you.
