Meet Zander, our awesome Fellow from the Yale Center for Environmental Justice!
Welcome our I Heart My Home CT Yale Center for Environmental Justice Summer Fellow, Zander De Jesus!
Zander is a recent graduate from the Yale School of the Environment, receiving a Master of Environmental Management degree, with a specialization in People, Equity, and the Environment. He grew up outside Boston, MA, and has lived in New Haven for over five years as a Yale undergraduate focused on environmental justice, youth education, and American history.
His current studies highlight the intersection of environmental health and environmental justice, building a multidisciplinary lens that combines pollution chemistry, political ecology, and histories of intersectional social movement organizing. Zander is inspired to research how marginalized communities can be empowered to understand, identify, and evaluate environmental pollutants in their neighborhoods. By making research methods highly participatory, he hopes to study how community voices can most effectively lead environmental justice organizing and translate their needs into substantive policy.
He is excited to contribute to the Neighborhood Housing Service’s I Heart My Home CT program by performing data analysis, writing educational content, and supporting community engagement. I Heart My Home CT program's emphasis on affordable and equitable access to home energy improvement resources aligns strongly with Zander’s goals to support healthy communities and ecosystems.
Special thanks to Kristin Barendregt-Ludwig of the Yale Center for Environmental Justice for helping us connect with Zander.
