Verticillium Wilt! Here we have a Redbud tree that had dead branches pruned off. You can clearly see the dark vascular streaking of the sap wood. This dark colored fungus plugs the water carrying vessels of a tree killing the tree in time. Unfortunately there is no cure for this issue. Keeping the tree as healthy as possible through cultural means such as proper fertilization, watering and pruning can help extend the life.

Attention Boxwood owners: the Box Tree Moth, a potentially devastating invasive insect pest first identified in New York in 2021, is expected to arrive in Illinois soon. Having been spotted as close as 260 miles away near Detroit and northwest Ohio, it is likely that this insect will be detected in Illinois at some point soon, if it hasn't already arrived. If left undetected, the Box Tree Moth can cause rapid defoliation and death of entire boxwood stands within days. Key signs of infestation include significant sections of missing leaves.
