Architects have mostly forgotten how to design for natural ventilation. This 1928 school building in the North Carolina mountains shows how it is done. It features very large operable classroom windows. The building is laid out along a north/south axis thus minimizing solar heat gain for this southern region. When the building was built, there was no accommodation for any HVAC systems.
The renovation of this school building is an ongoing project for Studio LeDoux.
