That's a wrap on the 2026 Healthcare Design Conference + Expo!

It was an exciting few days of learning, collaboration, and connecting with fellow professionals who share our passion for advancing healthcare design.

Three members of the STBA healthcare team attended this year's conference, with two taking the stage to share insights and lessons learned from navigating complex, multi-phased healthcare projects. From coordinating multiple design and construction teams to maintaining hospital operations throughout construction, the session highlighted the importance of collaboration, adaptability, and a shared vision for success.

Beyond the presentations, STBA was also proud to participate as the host firm in the AIA AAH Steris HCD Student Design Charrette, supporting the next generation of designers as they explored innovative solutions to real-world healthcare challenges.

We're grateful for the opportunity to share our experiences, exchange ideas, and bring fresh perspectives back to our work. Thank you to everyone who helped make this year's conference a success!

On Sunday, October 18, STBA’s Anna Ghelase and Clarissa Costa Lima will take the stage to present “Many Teams, One Campus” — a look inside the complex transformation of East Jefferson General Hospital as Tulane’s academic and clinical programs were integrated into the existing community hospital campus.

We are excited to announce that two of our projects were recognized at the 2026 IIDA Interior Design Excellence Awards!
The Slidell Memorial Hospital Surgery Addition and East Jefferson General Hospital Emergency Department both received Awards of Recognition in the Healthcare-Large category. Congratulations to our design teams and partners on both of these projects!

Construction update at the Cut-Off Natatorium!

Metal building er****on is underway as the building is starting to take form. It’s exciting to see this project come to life and move one step closer to serving the community. Designed to support recreation and year-round programming, this facility will create a dynamic space for swimmers of all ages and abilities.

We’re proud to collaborate with the entire project team and Landis Construction to bring this impactful community resource from vision to reality. Stay tuned for more construction updates as work continues!

During the inaugural AIA New Orleans Center for Architecture and Design Architecture Week, two of our team members, Anna Bertucci Ghelase and Crystal Mitchell , had the opportunity to mentor high school students exploring a future in architecture. Partnering alongside professional mentors and students from Tulane University, participants took part in an immersive design charrette—developing concepts through sketches and physical models.
Five teams presented their work to a jury of Tulane professors, receiving thoughtful feedback and recognition for standout ideas. Rather than working with a single team, Anna and Crystal served as floating mentors—supporting all groups, encouraging creativity, and helping students push their designs further.
We’re proud to be part of experiences that inspire and support the future of our profession.
