As a Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) project, and the first senior housing built in Morgan City in over a decade, this project explores the meaning of providing housing for an aging population in a contemporary context.

Is it enough for housing to be merely a roof over the head and a pillow beneath, or does it demand better light, better green space, and better opportunities to build community? The design responds to these questions by being thoughtful and humane—considering how residents can comfortably transition into living within a larger community where small design decisions can have a subtle, yet outsized impact, on their quality of life.

Permits were released today and construction is set to start next week for this labor of love! The extent of the remaining historic fabric of the building was discovered during the demolition process and incorporated into the final envelope design. The historic, pressed metal panels are being carefully cataloged, removed, and restored. Then a layered continuous insulation and rain screen system will be applied to the original board sheathing. New pressed metal panels have been sourced to infill where needed.
