Time slows down when you’re standing face to face with one of the tallest, oldest trees in New Prague. It was here long before paved roads, housing developments, Econo Foods, and the bowling alley.

It won’t be buried. It won’t be cremated. It will be turned into mulch, and spend its retirement keeping flowerbeds warm. There are worse afterlives.

BREAKING: O’Rourke Joins Elite Company

You may remember Michael O’Rourke from Mulch 2023. Or Mulch 2024. Or Mulch 2025.

Now a seasoned veteran of the mulch game, O’Rourke returned for another campaign in 2026 and was once again a huge part of the work getting done in the field. Known for working hard, doing things the right way, and consistently putting out excellent work, Michael has officially been named your August 2026 Mulcher of the Month.

O’Rourke has also played a major role in Jones Mulch Service’s recent foray into tree work, part of the company’s ongoing effort to get closer to the source of mulch.

The honor puts O’Rourke in rare company. He joins Tom McBroom as the only two-time Mulchers of the Month in company history.

When asked what comes next, O’Rourke made his intentions clear:

“The race for three times starts now.”
