Ridge Walkers Homestead -

We are located along a ridge, on a narrow back woods dirt road in north east Tennessee, in the town of New Tazewell. This is why we've selected Ridge Walkers Homestead. Our goal is to grow slow and do things right by our customers, building a long term happy customer base as we grow with you. We started with chickens... selling the eggs that are

loaded with many heath benefits then added herbs, assorted berries and vegetable varieties each year while the garden space grew as well. Gardening along a hillside full of moist clay soil is no easy task. We decided to make long rows of one sided raised beds like steps the rows go up. Wattle fence walls while layering the beds up the hillside. Working the clay soil into great soil has been the goal over the years. Having chickens and making use of the manure is the gold we needed along with kitchen scraps/compost and chop and drop gardening methods. Nothing goes to waste here, as it should be! The chickens get to roam free after the first meal is offered then given kitchen scraps and a small 2nd meal during the day. They scratch for bugs daily and come running to us when we yell out "come here, come on" or we clap our hands. They know its easy eats time, and boy do they run for it! They eat from the land and are given high protein feed daily along with black oil sunflower seeds and oats. Kitchen scraps are also offered. We do not use chemicals in our garden beds, we use BT, diatomaceous earth and baking soda as needed. Fruit trees, strawberries, black raspberries, red and black berries, blueberries, cherry bushes and assorted grape vines are also planted and thriving. We hope to be offering peaches, white and regular nectarines, pears, apples and nanking cherries next year. I cook home-style using what we grow and use the eggs giving by our flock each day. I can what we can't use up to use in the off season. Herbs are dried, vinegar(s) are infused, eggs are pickled and flavorful oils are created from what didn't sell or get used up right away. We brew kombucha and make milk and water kefir each week. The kombucha mother/scobies love our home and brew up fast as does the water and milk kefir. We sell both milk and water grains and kombucha mother/scobies kits to those interested in brewing... I can teach you how easy it is. Ask about custom made pickled eggs, assorted vinegar flavors, assorted herbs or blends, water or milk kefir grain kits are for sale and soooo much more.

I'll be making my favorite jelly this weekend since we've sold out, again ~ Blackberry ~ Our own Red & Black Raspberries are ripening and being picked every other day. Some are going into the freezer some we have over yogurt or my homemade granola. I love spring and summer harvesting! I need to get an apple berry pie and a apple raspberry crisp made... note to self.

Just sitting here on this wonderful sunny day thinking of you all. I'm happy that so many of you are using and liking our products. We tried offering items in the past that didn't sell fast enough to keep them fresh or make it worth having those extra inventory items here. We offer items with NO artificial ingredients and oils known to be bad for the human body and we did our best to not use plastics. I'm still working on a few NEW ITEMS so keep looking over our shelves.. Have a BLESSED WEEKEND :-)

When timing means everything... the store was closed, the streets where not busy at 7 PM. The storm could have been worse but even with all that happened within our town center no one was seriously injured. The rebuilding will take place where needed. This video shows the roof was not torn off as some are saying. We where just at Duncan on Wednesday I'm so glad nobody was in there working or shopping! https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1BaTR84auT/

In June I will bring to you (at Whitt's place) SAFFRON the original kind and way... way less expensive but with the same medicinal health benefits. I won't tell those you know its not saffron because what I've discovered -------- is far more superior, even a 14 day war took place over these two plants.

Edible flowers bring elegance & magic to food. You can transform everyday food into works of art and gourmet magic. These edible flowers are natural forms of decoration free of dyes. You can decorate serving plates, bowls, trays, jello, cookies or cake with them. Get creative and enjoy what nature has to offer. Use the whole flower as well as young leaves of the plant and add them to salads, pastas, and wraps. Garnish anything with them for a touch of elegance. Wash them in a bowl of cool water and lay them out on a towel to drip dry for several minutes.
