From project walkthroughs and construction site visits to office days, industry events, and conversations around healthy materials and thoughtful design.

These past weeks included attending the WTA Annual Dinner in the last steps of this project, visiting the Healthy Materials Lab at Parsons School of Design in New York, beginning two synagogue renovation projects, collaborating with ST Studios on a school project in Midtown Manhattan, and continuing work on a residential renovation.

A reminder that great design happens both behind the scenes and out in the field through collaboration and staying deeply connected to the spaces and communities we design for.

Styling is often what transforms a space from designed to personal.

A beautiful room is not created only through architecture or furniture, but through the layers that give it character and soul. The layers, art, books, objects collected over time, textiles, lighting - are what make a home feel personal rather than staged.

The best spaces don’t feel like showrooms. They feel lived in, layered, a little unexpected, and deeply connected to the people inside them, like a story unfolding over time.

Biophilic design is based on the idea that humans have an innate connection to nature, and that the spaces we spend time in should reflect that connection.

Natural light, organic materials, greenery, textures, views of nature, and sensory experiences can all positively influence how we feel, think, focus, and function within a space.

We spend so much time thinking about the food we eat, the products we use, and the routines that support our health. But we rarely stop to think about the spaces we spend our lives in.

I recently visited the Healthy Materials Lab at Parsons School of Design in New York, and it was a powerful reminder that every material specified in a building carries consequences.

This is one of the many reasons why hiring an architect goes beyond aesthetics. Thoughtful design can support wellbeing, learning, productivity, emotional regulation, and long term health.

Art completely changes how a space feels.

The right piece can add warmth, movement, personality, contrast, or even help anchor an entire room. Without it, a space can sometimes feel unfinished, even when everything else is in place.

When selecting artwork for residential projects, we think about scale, color, texture, placement, and how the piece interacts with the architecture and natural light throughout the space.

It is never just decoration. It becomes part of the atmosphere of the home.

A well designed kitchen is not just about finishes and aesthetics. The measurements behind the design are what make the space feel functional, intuitive, and comfortable to use every day.

From island clearances and seating dimensions to appliance garage depths and upper cabinet heights, thoughtful proportions completely change how a kitchen flows and functions.

Open concept spaces look effortless, but the best ones are carefully considered.

The goal is to create flow without losing definition. Here are 3 ways to make it feel intentional:

▪️ Define zones subtly
Use rugs, lighting, and furniture placement to create clear areas without adding walls. Each zone should feel distinct, but still connected.

▪️ Keep a consistent material palette
Carry similar tones, textures, or finishes throughout the space to unify it. Variation is important, but it should feel curated, not random.

▪️ Anchor each area with purpose
A statement light over the dining table, a grounded sofa layout in the living room, a console at the entry, each moment should feel designed, not leftover.

When done well, an open concept space doesn’t feel like one big room, it feels like a series of spaces that naturally belong together.
