OMNIA Properties celebrated the opening of Freeman Residences this month. GF55 Architects was on hand for the festivities!

Located at 183 Chrystie Street in NYC’s Lower East Side, Freeman Residences is a 64,450 GSF mixed-use building. 57 rental and condominium residences can be found above ground floor retail. Special thanks to David Paz, President of Omnia Properties who worked closely with the GF55 team on the façade design & interiors of the 17-story building.

The design solution re-establishes the property’s relationship to the historic Sara D. Roosevelt Park and references the Art Deco era when the park was created. Stepped dormers and cantilevered floors introduce a distinctive profile while arched windows and finely detailed façade elements reference the neighborhood’s historic character. Generous glazing and landscaped terraces connect the light filled living spaces to the neighborhood gardens in the park below.

Westchester Magazine featured David E. Gross’ Rye House in its Spring 2026 design issue. “Gross’ Rye home” writes editor Samantha Garbarini, “rises like a monolithic sculpture on a field of green.”

The iconic Rye House was designed in 1955 by Ulrich Franzen and expanded by Gross in 1995 to form a complete ensemble. Gross, Executive Partner of GF55 Architects, recently renovated the house again. For Gross, the home is his design laboratory, constantly being tweaked to reflect his evolving design language. His skillfull changes guide a modern aesthetic which remain respectful of the mid-century home’s original spirit.

Momentum is Growing Behind Housing Delivery

GF55 Architects Executive Partner David E. Gross AIA recently led a panel at New York State Association for Affordable Housing's Annual Conference - “The Future of Affordable Housing Starts Here!” - focused on emerging technologies for getting housing built.

Last week Governor Kathy Hochul spearheaded a policy reform limiting the scope and scale of SEQRA review. This will streamline the review process and is estimated to get projects into the ground 6 months earlier.

Governor Kathy Hochul and local officials gathered at the Re*****on Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle to announce state funding for the Project. This reconfiguration will reconnect the historically African-American Lincoln Park Neighborhood that was split apart due to the construction of Memorial Highway. This was a victory for New Rochelle Mayor Yadira Ramos-Herbert who has long championed this change.

GF55 Architects is honored that our design for the Boys & Girls Club has become a civic hub for the life of New Rochelle.

Gov. Kathy Hochul said that the state would offer $16 million to New Rochelle's effort to reconnect the historically Black Lincoln Park neighborhood.
