A recent review of an eatery - "I was in a newly opened specialty food store in the Hamptons a couple of weeks ago. We were both super hungry but left empty handed."

This was no comment made on the food itself or even the tile and finishes, which were in great taste and appropriate though poorly lit.

Lighting plays an important role in your space.

Guests not being tempted with ordering through poorly lit and haphazard placed cases for ready made food, happens when they are unable to understand where they are and what they are experiencing.

Retail design can be thought of as storytelling, with the layout functioning like a theatre set that conjures impactful emotions and engages all of the senses. The design and emotion should be unmistakably identifiable, carrying this essence while evolving into different towns and cities.

Successful restaurants feel as calm and well thought out as their food. And that's how it should be.

Environments are spicy, at times rustic, humble or theatrical, but always a translation of the chefs palate.

And never chaotic.

Considerately adjustable lighting, texture, temperature and attention to acoustics are all key ingredients in the design of a restaurants interior.

Over light any restaurant and immediately it becomes fast food, under light and it's immediately confusing.
