The transformation of 5th Avenue flagship is now complete. The redesign with improved infrastructure and three-story addition by OMA Partner and Associate Jake Forster, and interiors by Peter Marino, reimagines the historic building as a diverse retail and cultural institution.

OMA / Jason Long’s Eagle + West is now complete, marking OMA’s first high-rise in New York. An assembly of two towers, a seven-story building, a series of amenities, and open space—adds 600,000 square-feet across 745 total units of market-rate and affordable housing, and 30,000 square-feet of new public space to the city.

The extension of Eagle Street and Dupont Street through the site to the East River, now open to the public, provides access to a new plaza and waterfront esplanade. Together, the residential complex and street-level interventions simultaneously signal and anchor the transformation of Greenpoint’s post-industrial edge to an open, accessible, and continuous waterfront neighborhood.

Traditional spaces for work and education are diversified to provide both formal and informal, prescribed and ad-hoc environments for meeting, learning and collaboration. Early studies explored forms and program organization that could expand upon the diversification of programs to enable orthogonal collaboration.

Designed by and for NTT Urban Development Co., Ltd., Harajuku Quest will be a renewed commercial and cultural center in Harajuku, Tokyo, and the firm’s first ground-up mixed-use building in Omotesando. Construction of the 87,000-square-feet complex began in October and is expected to complete in February 2025.

Shohei Shigematsu, OMA Partner, said, “The conjunction of Omotesando and Oku-Harajuku embodies a duality of urban context as well as Tokyo’s fashion and retail culture. It was essential for the new building to bridge the two areas and express two stories. Like two sides of the same coin, a single building conveys alternate personalities, connected by a new public corridor. Harajuku Quest acts as both a visual and programmatic convergence point of Omotesando and Oku-Harajuku—a gathering place where visitors can experience the activities and aura of global fashion and local cultural scene simultaneously.”

Following its success at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and after having traveled the world from London to New York, the exhibition Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams will be presented at the emblematic Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, starting December 21, 2022.

Paced by a new scenographic narrative designed – as a tribute to Japanese culture – by Partner of OMA, this retrospective, which is being reinvented under the curatorship of Florence Müller, spotlights more than seventy-five years of bold passion, punctuated by wonderful discoveries.
