STADIO GIUSEPPE MEAZZA (SAN SIRO) 🇮🇹

It is in Milan, currently the largest stadium in Italy, is an architectural marvel, with characteristic red beams and a seemingly floating roof as the markers of its distinctive appearance. Officially named in memory of footballer Giuseppe Meazza in 1980, San Siro Stadium is often referred to by football fans as the ‘Temple of Football’. Its construction dates back to 1925, when the first four straight stands were built. In 1935, initial expansion works boosted the capacity from 35,000 to 55,000 seats. In 1955, a second round of structural works increased the capacity to 100,000, though this was later reduced to 85,000 for safety reasons. Webuild carried out the last major renovation project: a radical transformation spread over two years in preparation for the 1990 World Cup. Today, the structure seats 85,000, with no terraces, and features a characteristic transparent roof that can be extended to cover the entire stadium (excluding the pitch itself). This was possible by building a third terraced ring supported by 11 reinforced concrete cylindrical towers. The Meazza stadium, considered the largest stadium in Italy, was classified second by the Times amongst the most beautiful stadiums in the world and it ranks amongst the 20 largest stadiums in the world. 1912-1926 Ulisse Stacchini, Architect & Alberto Cugini, Engineer. 1935 Expansion: Giuseppe Bertera, Engineer & Perlasca, Architect. 1955 Expansion: Armando Ronca & Ferruccio Calzolari. 1990 Giancarlo Ragazzi, Henry Hoffer, & Leo Finzi, Engineer. NATA JANBERIDZE & KETI TOLORAIA 🇬🇪

Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, Nata Janberidze and Keti Toloraia’s collaboration started at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, where they studied Interior Design together, between 1997 – 2003. In 2007, soon after graduating, Janberidze and Toloraia established the first female-run studio in Tbilisi, Georgia working primarily on collectible objects and designing various architectural spaces. Following the turbulence of the newly found independence, Georgia became flooded with precarious architecture, DIY extensions on social blocks and vernacular solutions to the street décor. The transformation era has been reflected in Janberidze and Toloraia’s creative thinking and gradually in their practice. First drawing inspiration from European design principles but in 2016 they focused on their Georgian roots. Source: roomsstudio.net

SOPHEAP PICH 🇰🇭 🇺🇸

(born 1971 in Battambang, Cambodia) is widely regarded as one of the most influential contemporary sculptors from Southeast Asia. His work, rooted in memory, trauma, and the physical landscape of Cambodia, has reshaped global perceptions of what contemporary sculpture from the region can be. Pich’s sculptures often resemble organic forms, anatomical structures, botanical shapes, or architectural grids. They appear both fragile and strong, echoing Cambodia’s own process of rebuilding after trauma. Source: Sopheap Pich

HELEN LIU FONG 🇨🇳 🇺🇸

After attending the University of California, Berkley, Fong worked as a secretary and later landed a job at Armet & Davis, where she quickly became known for her signature Googie-style of architecture. Googie architecture was known for futuristic design often compared to something out of the “Jetsons” and could often be seen in diners, coffee shops and delis throughout California. Her whimsical creations ushered in a new era for boomerang angles, dynamic forms, and neon lights. Fong was one of the first women to join the American Institute of Architects and is best known for designing the Holiday Bowl bowling alley in Los Angeles, a landmark that brought together Japanese Americans, African Americans, and Chinese Americans in the community.
