Antique Silk Persian Bakshaish Floral Pattern Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: 1880

The contrast between a luminous ivory field and a deep navy border gives this antique Persian Bakshaish rug an unusually crisp visual structure. Across the center, large red, blue and pale gold botanical forms interlock through a repeating network of curving and angular stems. No single motif dominates; instead, the eye moves continuously from one large blossom to the next, making the composition a strong example of an allover rug design.

Within that repeating framework, the scale of the ornament changes constantly. Broad blue-and-red blossoms alternate with smaller rosettes, compact leaves and secondary floral devices, while dark outlines give many of the larger forms a distinctly graphic edge against the light ground. The generous spacing between these elements keeps the extensive floral pattern legible rather than crowded, even where several motifs overlap or connect.

The broad navy border provides a dramatic counterweight to the pale interior. Larger upright floral forms appear at intervals along the upper and lower sections, surrounded by smaller blossoms and a loose lattice of stems in red, ivory, blue and muted gold. Narrow rust-red and patterned guard borders add further definition, creating a layered transition between the dark perimeter and the central field.

Because silk is part of the rug's supplied material identity, it also belongs naturally within Nazmiyal's collection of silk rugs. Visually, however, the defining relationship remains the one between the expansive ivory ground, strongly outlined botanical forms and dark enclosing border - a combination that gives the rug both decorative richness and unusually clear organization.

A rug left a mountain village in western Persia, beginning a journey its maker could never have imagined.

Hand-spun wool was colored with roots, flowers, minerals, and earth. Then, knot by knot, a weaver shaped a deep-blue garden of monumental flowers and fantastical trees—giving life to this remarkable antique Bakshaish rug.

When the loom finally released it, another story began.

It crossed mountain roads and distant ports, eventually entering rooms far from the village where its first threads were tied. Generations walked across its field. Interiors changed. The rug endured.

What remains is a journey held in wool: the memory of a landscape, the touch of its maker, and an extraordinary object created to outlive us.

Gorgeous Floral Antique Persian Tabriz Allover Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: 1920

The ground is a deep forest green and almost none of it is left bare. Saffron palmettes the size of a hand repeat across the field, ringed by crimson rosettes, ivory leaves and small blue blossoms, all strung on a thin ivory vine. There is no medallion - the pattern runs edge to edge at one scale.

That is the allover habit: a repeating floral system instead of a single centre, and every stem in it curves. The border changes to a warm cream ground carrying indigo rosettes with crimson hearts, marigold surrounds and green leaves between, closed on both sides by narrow rose guard stripes.

At 9 ft 4 in by 12 ft, it sits in the 9 x 12 size range, the usual footprint for a living room with the furniture standing on the rug. A larger or smaller version of this allover is available as a custom rug.
