We were delighted to offer our NWFA Course, WOOD FLOORING 101, as a CEU Lunch & Learn for the design-build studio, .

Founded by architect Themis Haralabides and based in Brooklyn, reBuild Workshop is regarded as one of the leaders in Passive House building in New York City. Dedicated to creating enduring, high-performance homes that reflect how people live today, this design-build studio designs and builds with a focus on health, sustainability, and long-term resilience, uniting architecture, interiors, and construction within one integrated process.

During our interactive, educational lunch with reBuild Workshop’s talented team, we focused on understanding the many characteristics of hardwood flooring.

It was a true honor to have the reBuild Workshop’s inspiring design team chose our sustainable luxury wood floors company, , to guide their CEU Lunch & Learn. It was a wonderful afternoon filled with wood flooring samples, conversations about material specification, passive house design, and our shared enthusiasm for sustainable design.

▪️▫️Bloomingdale’s NYC Flagship Renovation Reimagines Iconic Retail Details in Wood ▫️▪️

A New York City luxury retail institution since 1886, the iconic Bloomingdale’s flagship, located at 59th and Lexington in Manhattan, is undergoing an ambitious renovation and revitalization, catalyzed by the vision “Dream Big.”

Olivier Bron, the CEO of Bloomingdale’s, recently expounded upon this vision in Monocle, “My dream is to build the next golden age of Bloomingdale’s,” he says. “The last one was in the 1970s and 1980s, when 59th Street was the convergence point for all New Yorkers.”

▪️▫️A collective effort in design ▫️▪️

Integral to the design for this next golden age of Bloomingdale’s was reimagining the look and feel of the New York City flagship’s historic black and white tiles. PID Floors was honored to be tasked with the work of reinterpreting these iconic tiles using the warm and inviting material of wood that would seamlessly coexist with the new visual storytelling, architectural storytelling, immersive retail concepts, and impeccable aesthetics. This approach to luxury retail flooring reflects an elevated customer experience through the prism of experiential interior design.

▪️▫️Wood Flooring as an extension of architecture and storytelling ▫️▪️

PID Floors created an innovative twist on traditional Herringbone Parquet for the areas adjacent to the escalators. Planks of European Oak, in two beautifully contrasting shades, were cut and assembled to form a unique custom box pattern parquet, reminiscent of the original black and white square tiles. These new wood parquet tiles are paired with European Plank flooring throughout the monumental space helping to engender what Bloomingdale’s Executive Vice President and director of stores, Catherine Cook, called a “warmer, much more feminine environment,” in WWD / Yahoo! Finance.
