She’s in the nesting box working on laying her very first egg, which is already a big enough moment on its own… but now I’m trying to figure out why he decided he needed to be in there too. 😅

Is he offering moral support? Supervising the process? Claiming he’s the midwife? Or did he just decide this was the best seat in the coop?

Either way, she looks busy, he looks way too involved, and I have so many questions. Chickens really do make every normal moment just a little more dramatic.

Please don’t come at me — I promise I’m trying to do everything I can. 🐓

This little one is my daughter’s baby, Olaf, and she would be absolutely heartbroken if we had to rehome him. We do live out in the county, but unfortunately our HOA rules say hens only. I don’t want to do anything inhumane, and I really don’t want to give him up if there’s any possible way to make this work.

Two of my neighbors don’t mind him at all, but a few others have already said something, so now I’m looking for advice before things get worse.

Has anyone found any humane tricks or solutions that help with rooster noise or keeping them a little quieter? I just want my daughter to be able to keep her Olaf if there’s a safe and kind way to do it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. 🙄🐓

I bought this chicken paper towel holder, and honestly, I regret nothing. Is it practical? Technically, yes. Is it necessary? Absolutely not. Did I still need it the second I saw it? Without question.

My partner took one look at it and said, “This is why we can’t have savings,” which feels a little dramatic considering this golden chicken is clearly bringing joy, elegance, and emotional support to the kitchen.

Some people invest in stocks. Some people invest in retirement. I invest in ridiculous chicken-themed home decor, and I stand by my choices. 😭🐔

How is everyone handling aggressive roosters?

A little backstory: we’ve had this guy since he was about 2 weeks old. He was part of our very first batch of chicks, so he was handled, spoiled, and loved on a lot when he was little.

Our chickens free range in the backyard during the day, and they have a coop and run for nighttime and early mornings. Lately though, he’s been turning into a real problem. He’s about 7 months old now, and almost every morning when I go outside before work to feed, water, and let everyone out of the run, he tries to come after me.

What can we do to stop this behavior? It’s getting really annoying, and we’re honestly getting close to rehoming him if we can’t get it under control.

When you’re headed to the lake house but can’t bring yourself to leave the chickens home alone, so naturally they get packed up and come along for the ride. 😂

Nothing says “road trip” quite like a bin full of hens sitting in the passenger seat, judging your driving and acting like they paid for gas. They may not know where we’re going, but they’re definitely coming with us.

What is my hen doing here, and why does she keep doing it? She keeps trying to go underneath my rooster, either near his front or around his back end. Every time he moves away, she follows him and does it again. I’m not sure if this is normal chicken behavior, a sign she wants something, or if she’s just being odd. Has anyone seen their hens do this before?

Do I really need to close the coop door every single night if the run is already protected? I usually go to bed around 7:30 p.m. and I’m up at 2:00 a.m. for a 4:00 a.m. work start, so staying up late to shut the door is tough. The pen is built pretty securely with hardware cloth/wire around it, and the chickens are inside the enclosed run. I’m wondering if it’s still necessary to lock the actual coop door every night, or if the protected run is enough to keep them safe.

Quick question for the chicken keepers… our hens sleep in their coop at night, but during the day they have free run of the backyard. For some reason, they keep making their way onto the cement back porch and leaving their messes there. We wash the patio off daily, or at least most days, but now it’s starting to smell like an outhouse every time we walk out the back door.

We’ve already tried vinegar, power washing, and even spraying Odor Ban, but I’m still noticing the odor. What else can I do to get rid of the smell and keep the patio from turning into their favorite bathroom spot? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

My daughter absolutely stole the spotlight at the county fair last weekend with her adorable costume, complete with her chicken in a “KFC bucket.” She ended up winning the costume contest, and we couldn’t be more proud! It was such a sweet, funny, and unforgettable memory for our family. 🎡🐔🏆✨
