It's time to buy your amaryllis kits! I kept one of these amaryllises from last year alive on my screened porch from the last freeze until the first freeze! It's inside now. Fingers crossed that it blooms again this year! Happy holidays everyone! Follow me on Instagram for more gardening content! https://www.instagram.com/cheryls2centsworth

Amaryllis!! Most of my flowers bloom in the spring or the summer or the fall. One of my granddaughters wanted a flower that blooms on her birthday—in December!! Ask CiCi and you shall receive!!
(I bought these kits in November at Ace Hardware. Pro tip: If you want an amaryllis in full bloom on a certain day, buy 2 or 3 and start the planting process a week apart from each other) Have a great week! Cheryl

My west flower border in August! (Zone 8a) My west flower border is my longest border. In this video, I name most of the plants so that if you like them, you can add them to your Plant Wish List. Most of the plants flowering right now are annuals, but there are some perennials in this border. Most of the vinca in my backyard are volunteers – which means that I didn’t plant them this year – the seeds from my vinca from previous years sprouted all by themselves and grew into beautiful flowers! I DID plant the red vinca surrounding the bird bath this year. We’ll see how many red vinca volunteers I get next year!! Flower fix for today – Check ✅!

1st set of videos/photos: Wedding Ring. Bicolor - It’s either blue with white margins or pink with white margins. (or purple with white margins – because if you mix pink and blue, you get purple) LOVE the bicolor blooms!!!

2nd set of videos/photos: Blushing Bride. I assume the person who named this was looking at a blossom on a plant in alkaline soil. (Soil with low pH is acidic soil. Soil with high pH is alkaline soil.) The blush of pink on the white blossoms is like a blushing bride, right? Well, OK. However, if this hydrangea is planted in acidic soil, the hint of color will be BLUE vs. PINK. Hello?! A blue blushing bride… hmmmm.

3rd set of videos/photos: Rhythmic Blue. An even dumber name is Rhythmic Blue. Seriously? Who named this hydrangea? What was he/she smokin’? I have Rhythmic Blue hydrangeas that are blue, ones that are purple, and ones that are VERY PINK – and I mean very pink. I vote that the people who name hydrangeas need to graduate from Hydrangea School. Ok – done with ranting now.

I have over 100 hydrangeas (about 30 different species ). Stay tuned for more to come! I plan to highlight some more hydrangeas over the course of the next week or so.

If a previous owner planted daffodils, and if they end up growing in a wonky place, you dig them up and give them a new home in your yard! Can’t wait to enjoy the blossoms soon. The last photo is my first pink Lenten rose – the variety is Ice N’ Roses Pink. Have a great weekend!

Winter sowing!!  Today I finished another little batch of winter sowing. (sowing seeds in the winter)  Basically the containers need to have drainage holes and also holes in the top to get [rain/snow] water.  I create holes with either a candle (fire) or a drill. I’m experimenting with several different types of containers. I’m doing another batch soon with little peat pots inside of a Sterilite container. Stay tuned for the big reveal in April in my Zone 8a!  Today I also had my very FIRST bloom of the year – a precious, little muscari!!!  (see last photo)  Happy winter gardening everyone!

Cleome on Halloween in zone 8a! It’s so weird to see the vibrant, healthy, robust, PINK cleome in the foreground with the yellow and orange fall leaves on the trees in the background. It’s also weird that we’re getting our first FREEZE tonight vs. in about 2 weeks !  Flower fix for today – check! ✅ Goodbye annuals. Hello pansies and violas!!  Happy Halloween everyone!
