scalar Architecture is an award winning international design firm based in New York City. As the term indicates, scalar Architecture operates at a variety of scales collaborating with allied key experts. The fruits of these collaborations are all embracing projects that garner accolades for their transformative solutions, such as the International First Prize for the development of Hamar, Norway,

and the Lasso House, which won the Architectural League Young Architect’s Award. In all its ventures, scalar Architecture provides an expansive deployment of architecture and its registers of program, geometry, context, aesthetics and form.

Completed in 2026, this Scalar Architecture project adds two stories to a corner building at Bowery and 2nd Street, delivering 7,000+ sq ft of new and renovated presidential spaces across three levels.

A sloped glazed façade responds to environmental performance, urban views, and bird-safety considerations, while the interiors combine high-performance systems with a warm, mid-century inspired palette of bold colors and tactile materials.

Writers Pavilion — Wellfleet, Cape Cod

A 20’ x 20’ open-air writers pavilion set within the pine barrens of Wellfleet.

Simple wood studs and rafters are stabilized by two diagonal, pyramidal corner forms—eliminating the need for interior bracing and creating a fully open interior. A flat roof with skylights and syncopated openings brings in shifting light, while open north–south ends allow natural ventilation and seasonal comfort.

A small structure shaped by climate, light, and the discipline of simplicity.

Facade Renovation

Our project is a renovation of an existing structure. Much of the emphasis of the project is a new envelope and in particular, the 29th street facade. Being located on a narrow Manhattan street, the design configures a series of elements that search an oblique geometry longitudinal with the street as they manage the existing structure. The new oblique geometry allows for a series of visual relations between the inside and the outside.

Furthermore, the pattern deliberately conflates the static frontal metrics of horizontal and vertical registers with a shifting directional pattern of bay windows that speak to the movement along the street. The design utilizes curve glass panels that recede to afford operable window panels for natural ventilation and maintenance.

As we begin working side-by-side with local sponsors and partners, the project takes on the rhythms of its landscape—architectural culture, sun paths, monsoon rains, and shifting seasons. Each element is helping shape a more resilient, climate-responsive architecture. The future building will offer spaces for collaboration, focused work, and shared gathering—supporting one of the country’s key pillars of long-term financial stability.

Work in progress at our Brooklyn townhouse renovation, where preservation and transformation meet. We’re threading a new rear addition—masonry and steel—into the historic structure with a light touch, retaining as much of the existing fabric as possible. This surgical approach minimizes material waste and preserves embodied carbon while opening the interiors to generous light, air, and spatial clarity. A careful renewal for a building with character and a future.
