One of the strengths of the firm is its ability to balance institutional needs with individual needs, distilling complex programmatic and natural systems with individual experience. Since 1995, Dirtworks has sought projects that explore how design can improve the human condition. Grounded initially in the enhancement of personal health, and often designing for individuals with complex medical needs, our work has expanded over the years to encompass an ever-larger conception of health, including community and environmental health. We believe these form a continuum that must be approached holistically. This integrated approach to design is best practiced on collaboration. Strengthening the firm’s creativity is our broad organizational base, allowing us to work closely with our clients so that we may respond to diverse needs and challenging sites. Regional national and international specialists, are often enlisted to aid us to both articulate and solve today’s specialized problems so that our designs are appropriately dynamic, cost effective, and engaging.
