99 Bishopsgate Cultural Plan: Open Gate

The Cultural Plan design by WE-DESIGNS™ with SRD Culture Ltd, submitted with a redevelopment planning application for Brookfield Properties (UK) with architects RSHP was unanimously approved by the City of London Corporation’s Planning Sub-committee.

Brookfield Properties’ 99 Bishopsgate redevelopment, includes a 6-storey, standalone cultural centre called ‘Open Gate.’ The cultural plan strategy developed by SRD Culture Ltd, visually communicated by WE-DESIGNS, resulting from extensive research and co-design workshops with young creators, re-envisioned its historic location of controlling access, as a cultural gateway welcoming in under-represented voices as creators and audiences.

Sherry Dobbin called upon WE-DESIGNS to visually communicate what Council Members noted as "the thorough method that the applicant used for choosing cultural offerings, and thought that this could help inform the development of the City’s own framework for cultural space.”

Commissioned by The Museum of Nails Foundation, our team built the branding and digital media design strategy for the newly formed non-profit organization. Working closely with the Board of Directors and Executive Director, our team is developing both the digital media strategy, and an upcoming physical activation in collaboration with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority - MTA MTA Retail and Activations Unit in New York City — with additional activations on the boards, in Los Angeles and other US-based locations.

The Museum of Nails Foundation is dedicated to archiving, celebrating, and educating about the impact of nail art around the world and the stories of the artists who create it. It is a living archive of the history of nail art, the nail industry, and the workers who have built it. It educates the beauty fan on the artistry and craft that goes into the practice, and the history behind the techniques, materials, and trends. It seeks to provide resources and solace to nail artists looking for help, comfort, education, and inspiration. It is also a cultural space of play and a networking hub for artists and creatives interested in collaborating together.
