Our new company is called Garden Up because we are city people who live in apartments and have very little space and wanted to figure out a way to grow a big vegetable, herb and fruit garden in a small space. We wanted to make something affordable and something that really worked. We wanted a real solution and not a Topsy-Turvy gimmick. So Dr. Gary Zeller, co-founder and an amazing advanced materi
als scientist with decades of experience, took some eco-friendly plastics and his own bio-adhesives and crafted a tower holding 72 plants fed by a proprietary internal system that delivered, on a timed basis throughout the day and night, a stream of nutrient tea mixed with water to grow plants. People loved the idea of growing a big garden vertically, not horizontally. And it took up less than four square feet of space. What drives us is a distaste (literally and figuratively) for supermarket produce which travels on average 1,500 miles from farm-to-table, and is grown commercially for shipping (size, weight, timing) not for taste, nutrition or ripeness. Crappy supermarket tomatoes and a passionate search for a grow-your-own replacement solution started this company. Welcome to our world, where people anywhere can grow a nice big home food garden even in they only have a small available space. We aren’t activists or food preachers. We are doers and problem-solvers. And we hope you love our Garden Up tower units—big or small, each one is engineered to give you years of fresh produce, herbs and fruit, from your own garden to your own table in a matter of feet not thousands of miles.
