If anyone in NYC has interest in obtaining a DEP Grant to pay for installing a green roof on their large rooftop (over 5,000sf), they should attend this workshop. If you are interested and cannot attend, or would like to let someone else handle the application, get in touch with Brooklyn Greenroof. We are a licensed, bonded, insured, WBE certified green roof design/build contractor with over 14 years of experience installing green roofs in NYC. We have won this grant for many of our clients, some worth as much as $375,000. Because it is a grant, it pays for most of the hard costs.

Installed in 2018, this green roof is being well maintained. Caring for a green roof is easy. This homeowner enjoys doing it herself since we planted native, drought tolerant plants that don't require a lot of attention.

Passive House is the only building efficiency standard mentioned in the plan and the one standard that reliably and affordably delivers deep cuts in energy use proportionate to the climate challenge. Hoboken, NJ is getting the idea! Green roofs are a worthy investment where flooding and stormwater issues add to the urban woes that include heavy AC usage, wildlife habitat degradation, and not enough nature on view.

Stormwater runoff that comes from downspouts rushes onto roads, picking up copper from brake pads, fuel and chemicals. In urban areas like Hoboken, where there isn’t much natural ground to soak it up, that stomwater flows into the sewers and out to bodies of water, affecting the ecosystem. Green roo…
