A restaurant renovation in Jersey City for which we were Architect of Record has a nice write up on Jersey Digs for it's opening. Kudos to the client and their project manager Thomas Fowler, their GC Chris Regan and to their interior designer Carmen Negron!

A new upscale Jersey City dining experience from the team behind Satis Bistro will officially be welcoming diners in the coming days.

This is a little bit of a shocker. We've noticed over the last few years that it seemed like rents in the buildings we did for our clients were on par with Brooklyn or Queens, but this article intimates at least part of Jersey City is close to Manhattan.

With a spate of new luxury developments luring tenants from across the Hudson River, Jersey City has made itself the priciest city in the nation.

"The Hunt" feature in today's NY Times followed a couple from Downtown Brooklyn to Jersey City. One of their choices was our 202 Merseles project, so while the Architect's name (us) wasn't in there, photos of our work were in the NY Times today!

Over the years there have been proposals to transform public housing projects--this is one of the best we've seen. Infilling the empty spaces, adding balconies and roof amenities. Renovating the apartments to bring light and outdoor space would transform the lives of the people already living there, and the creation of courtyards with clear edges instead of the discredited "towers in a park", creating a street edge, would integrate them into the urban fabric instead of separating them from the rest of the neighborhood. Very good proposal.

Thoughtful article discussing some good ideas on how to create new housing. Interesting note regarding the 1940's legislation that prevented public housing from being mixed income (obvious undertone of mixed race) and led to the continued perception (and in many cases, reality) of these projects being only for the members of our society with the lowest incomes. What might have been--and what might be?

Public housing today could be so much better—architecturally and urbanistically—than it was in the 20th century

All of sudden, there are are top 10 lists of everything about the last 10 years. Here's Curbed NY's list of important buildings. Not the same list we would make, but shout outs to Dattner's Villa Verde and Salt Shed.

These buildings defined the decade in New York City.

An interesting account of how some visionary people are trying to transcend the current stark contrast of us v them in city growth; a very good point is possibly shifting from a neighborhood emphasis to a city-wide ethos/value system to de-escalate criticism, and how that might take a lot of work/time to make happen.

Why "YIMBY" vs. "NIMBY" is no way to think about the most complex human creation: the contemporary city
