Back from New Haven and still buzzing.

We presented Filling the Missing Middle in the Middle Matters session at the Passive House Network Conference, alongside Craig Toohey’s presentation for Collective Carpentry — sharing how pHdesign stepped into the developer role as 50/50 equity partners with Aaron Yassin of Hive Developers to bring an attainable Passive House to market in Ellenville, NY. A few months from completion and excited to share how it lands.

Staying at Hotel Marcel — the first Passive House hotel in the US, brilliantly reimagined from a 1969 Marcel Breuer building — was a masterclass in itself. Bruce Becker put it simply: Passive House is value engineering. Congratulations to Darren Macri of on his new role as PHN Board President.

What a week. pHdesign just returned from the Passive House Network Conference in New Haven, where we presented Filling the Missing Middle: Architect-Led Development for Attainable Passive House — the story of our first self-developed, market-rate home in Ellenville, NY.

A few highlights: Bruce Becker’s talk on Hotel Marcel reframed something we’ve long believed — Passive House isn’t a premium add-on, it’s the most effective value engineering instrument available. Congratulations to Darren Macri of Wythe Windows on his election as PHN Board President. And it was a pleasure sharing the Middle Matters session with Craig Toohey of Collective Carpentry.

Our 658 Briggs Highway home in Ellenville — co-developed as 50/50 equity partners with Aaron Yassin of Hive Developers — is a few months from completion. We’re on track and looking forward to sharing how it performs and how it markets.
