A very fruitful and invigorating day, thread joined the team for the with Urban Futures: Co-Creating Climate Resilience in NYC. Data is key to building future visions and is often not accessible for and communityactivitists working to change our worlds. thread is building collective intelligence putting data into action in our designs and analysis through building projects, designing for conservation, and community planning. Stay tuned for the State of the Flushing Bay to be released this spring in partnership with GoFB.

Kicking off the Resource Hub with at the Thrive Regional Partnership Tri-State Summit. Led by our friends st , working at the intersection of data science, research and design with thread collective spearheading community engagement. Last week was full of energetic days meeting with dozens of partners, team members, advocates and those taking great strides to improve this region. We are kicking off a deep community engagement phase to learn about projects now and in the future to understand how the resource hub can be a key asset to the Thrive Regional Partnership and their stakeholders. Already key issues have popped up like transportation, freight, blue highways, trails and conservation, preserving the regional character, economic development, ensuring safety in storm conditions, and public access - just to name a few. More to come.

One reason we love our outpost is for the morning walks along the which are invigorating and always a bit of research exploring the place(s) we live. There are new people to meet, the river’s tide to hear and the wildlife to watch.

One of our favorite projects, Black Box Red Hook, covered by thanks for the interview. Water, landscape, natural ecosystems, light and air are all key aspects to our work, along with a net-zero design strategy.
“It’s an adaptive reuse project,” said architect Gita Nandan, one of the firm’s three principals along with architect Marc Mancuso and Elliott Maltby, head of landscape design. “It was just a shell of a building. What we inherited was a black brick box” after Superstorm Sandy tore through the area in 2012. “It was a long slog.” The austere exterior remains, concealing a light-filled, elegant interior space with soaring ceilings, skylights, and huge sliding glass doors opening onto a series of gardens and roof terraces. “This is emblematic of our philosophy — landscape being architecture,” Nandan said. “There’s really deep integration between indoors and out, a blurring of the lines between the two. There are outdoor living areas as well as indoor planted zones.”
