Sloppy Joe Grilled Cheese 🥪🥩🧀🔥😋
Ingredients:
1 lb (450g) ground beef
1 tablespoon (15ml) olive oil
1 small onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup (120ml) ketchup
1 tablespoon (15ml) tomato paste
1 tablespoon (15ml) Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon (5ml) yellow mustard
1 teaspoon (5ml) brown sugar
Salt and black pepper to taste
8 slices bread (Texas toast or sandwich bread)
2 tablespoons (30g) butter, softened
2 cups (200g) shredded cheddar cheese
4 slices mozzarella or provolone cheese (optional)
Directions:
1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.
2. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Drain excess grease if needed.
3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
4. Add ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar, salt, and black pepper. Stir well and simmer for 5-7 minutes until thickened.
5. Butter one side of each bread slice evenly.
6. Place 4 slices of bread butter-side down on a clean surface. Top each with shredded cheddar cheese, a spoonful of sloppy joe mixture, and an optional slice of mozzarella or provolone cheese.
7. Place the remaining bread slices on top, butter-side facing outward.
8. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Cook the sandwiches for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is fully melted.
9. Remove from the skillet, let cool slightly, then slice and serve warm.
