Lenox Hill, New York: where history, Hollywood and American design collide.

Set within the upper floors of a limestone townhouse just steps from the iconic Breakfast at Tiffany’s location, this expansive duplex reimagines the golden age of American interiors. Drawing inspiration from design greats Dorothy Draper, Billy Baldwin, David Hicks and Sister Parish, the home blends treasured vintage pieces with new acquisitions to create rooms that feel layered, optimistic and deeply personal. From Coca-Cola brown walls that let the furnishings sing, to a dining room anchored by a bold 1970s-inspired artwork, every space tells a story.

This project features in my book Authentic Interiors: Rooms That Tell Stories.

One of the great pleasures of spring in Connecticut: watching the garden slowly come back to life. This weekend felt like pure bliss. 🌿

Part of our residential project in Park City, Utah, this living space balances warmth and scale through a considered mix of modern and traditional design elements. Framed by mountain views and centred around the fireplace, the interior creates a refined yet inviting atmosphere designed for gathering and retreat.

The idea of a UFC ring on the grounds of the White House to celebrate the birthday of a president honestly feels surreal and deeply disturbing.

Not because combat sports themselves are inherently wrong, but because of what this symbolizes. In a democracy, especially in the United States, presidents are supposed to be public servants, not monarchs or strongmen whose birthdays are marked with displays of power, spectacle, and aggression. That imagery belongs to authoritarian regimes, empires, and personality cults, not to the people’s house.

The White House is meant to represent democracy, diplomacy, intellect, culture, and restraint. Turning it into a backdrop for violence and entertainment feels less like a confident nation and more like a modern coliseum: spectacle replacing substance while institutions, public discourse, and civic norms erode in plain sight.

What unsettles me most is how quickly this kind of imagery becomes normalized. The merging of politics, celebrity culture, aggression, and entertainment keeps accelerating until leadership itself starts to feel performative rather than principled.

A nation reveals itself through what it chooses to celebrate publicly. And building a cage in front of the White House for a president’s birthday does not project democratic strength to me. It projects decline.

In my book ‘Authentic Interiors: Rooms That Tell Stories’, I share the late decorator Mario Buatta’s belief that color should reflect happiness, a sentiment I fully support. Whether it’s a collection of contemporary ceramics in vibrant red, blue, and green, mid-century Italian glass vases, red silk tassels adorning a closet door, or two dozen lush ranunculus casually arranged on a hall table, color not only captivates the eye but also enriches everyday life. Moreover, vivid colors have a more energizing effect compared to softer tones; bold colors bring a dynamic quality to spaces.

Curate Your Space Like a Gallery 🖤

One of my favorite ways to bring personality into a home is by turning transitional spaces, like hallways or entryways, into evolving showcases of art and antiques.

Think of it as your own rotating exhibition: vintage finds, collected pieces, and statement artworks that tell your story and shift with the seasons or mood. It’s a subtle way to keep your interiors fresh while celebrating the beauty of contrast and cratt.

The best spaces aren’t just decorated-they’re curated.
