spotlight: Hunter’s Point South Waterfront Park is a visionary reimagining of 30 acres of post-industrial Queens shoreline into a resilient and multifunctional public space.

Designed by SWA/Balsley in collaboration with and , the park, which opened to the public in July 2018, serves as both a vital community resource and as a blueprint for sustainable urban design, seamlessly weaving together infrastructure, ecology, and civic life.

Once a barren industrial site, the park now offers expansive green space, access to the water’s edge, and sweeping views of the Manhattan skyline. Its layered design supports a range of recreational uses while also functioning as a protective buffer for the surrounding residential neighborhood.

We were proud to support this transformative project, which continues to influence how cities envision the future of their waterfronts in an era of climate adaptation and equitable urban development.

RISD students are working to develop environmentally conscious design proposals in the spring Hyundai Motor Group-supported studio, “Future Structures: Biodesign Research and Regenerative Design.”

As part of a multi-year partnership between RISD and Hyundai, the course challenges students to apply lessons from nature to future mobility solutions.

Above, senior Gresh Chapman shares his Coke-bottle algae farm, a working prototype for filtering vehicle emissions as part of his carbon-neutral van project. Junior Karu Kumar experiments with origami-inspired forms to develop modular seating that mimics the strength, elasticity, and compact folding of an earwig’s wing. Also in the studio, junior Christina Wang builds a no-contact sensory system based on the African elephant nose fish, which uses electric fields to detect its surroundings. Her concept aims to monitor a driver’s vital signs and enhance automotive safety.

Last night, Hal Bromm Gallery opened its doors for “The Q***r Show, Part II.” Q***r people, despite being on the margins of society, have always been at the forefront of the avant-garde, as seen in the exhibition’s older works by David Wojnarowicz, Nayland Blake, and . All of the other works, by artists like , , and , were created in the last six years as America renewed and continued its efforts to make the lives of q***r people more difficult. “The Q***r Show” foregrounds these artists who imagine and realize q***r futures through their practices and creativity.

The exhibition will be on view until July 25 at (90 West Broadway, New York, New York).

The students of the WANTED Design Schools Workshop presented their final projects yesterday on the ICFF main stage, showcasing innovative responses to this year’s theme: “Eating in NYC: Reconnecting and Redesigning Food Systems.”

Over just four days, 30 students from international design schools collaborated in six interdisciplinary teams, guided by industry experts and guest mentors, to create impressive solutions. Projects ranged from pop-up tasting kitchens at farmers markets connecting consumers directly with farmers, and communal dining experiences for NYC students without traditional campuses, to public installations teaching New Yorkers about local produce sourcing, and designs to transform NYC’s composting into a fully circular system.

This year’s workshop was developed in partnership with and supported by , , and .

: Bruce Nauman’s Topological Gardens illuminated the U.S. Pavilion in 2009 with neon and sculptures inside and out. Curated by Carlos Basualdo and Erica Battle from , the exhibition (3 locations across .art.biennale) also received the prestigious Golden Lion award.

Blue Medium managed all media efforts, artist and donors events for a project that is said to have redefined the boundaries of space, light, sound and meaning. Nauman’s glowing Vices and Virtues encircling the neoclassical pavilion was an ever-present image in the media that year. That year, we also represented the Australian and Icelandic Pavilions and hosted a stellar barbecue lunch for media and colleagues on La Certosa.
