Many of NYC Local Laws which were created in 2020 are now being implemented in 2025. One specifically homeowners and building owners should be aware of is Local Law 31 whose deadline to implement it is coming up on August 9th, 2025. April is Earth Month a time for us to reflect on our relationship with the planet and take action to protect it. The AIA 2030 Commitment is an actionable climate strategy that gives architects a set of standards and goals for reaching net zero emissions in the built environment. Ranging from new construction, to restorations more than 1,350 architecture firms have made the commitment to do better and proud that my architecture firm is included in documenting this information for the 3rd year in a row. This commitment helps to see that we are making a difference and the positive impact for our projects, our clients and the planet.

The BOW Collective Makes History at the White House!

On Monday, July 22nd, The BOW Collective broke barriers as we met with top officials to discuss policies for Black women-owned businesses.

BOW represents 200+ CEOs doing $1.4 BILLION in business, and this meeting was a monumental step toward ensuring equity and inclusion in federal contracting. For the first time in history, SBA data shows deep racial disparities in government spends to Black businesses.

We believe that more spend will create more jobs. Advocacy equals access, and together, we raised our voices to make a difference.

Last night it was an honor and pleasure to attend the 34th Annual Lucy G. Moses Preservation Awards ceremony at the Plaza Hotel in NYC. The sold out event of 600 attendees composed of individuals and groups dedicated to preserve buildings that had unique stories within the city landscape. The range of projects awarded encompassed the James Earl Jones Theater, Masonic Hall, Lever House, New York Life Insurance and other amazing preservation projects. My firm M. Todd Architect, along with Naim Construction and the engineering prowess of TYLin | Silman Structural Solutions were among the awardees for the Ridges Residence located in the Bedford Stuyvesant Heights Historical District. It was the only private residence to acquire the 2024 Lucy G. Moses Award Celebrating Excellence! Receiving this recognition as a licensed black women architect where there is less than one half of 1% in the United States and raised in a community that has been frowned upon by many uplifting. This shows the origins that shape us and know where we come from provides a compass for our journey ahead. Growing up in a community where I always admired it’s beauty and history allowed me to express honor to it and in the end it honored me right back and I am grateful. -reuse
